    ORIGINAL POST:

    Hey guys,
first of all I want to thank all of you because reading hundreds of your posts I learnt a lot about a field I dind't know at all.
I finally decided to start my own 2DOF projects after seeing all of your wonderful DIYs.

First choice I had to take was if go with JRK or Arduino. Well, since I'm a software developer and I even wanted to start learning the Arduino side I chose the last. Still I think JRKs could be there in a not far future, let's see how this one go...
Then the choice was if use metal or wood. Since I can't weld at all, even if I'd like to, I decided to start with a wood frame, meanwhile I'll buy myself an inverter and let's see the damage I can do.

I already got the Arduino UNO and I started enjoin' it with some basic stuff. I'm waiting for the motor monster to be delivered and one wiper motor too.
I said one cause I already bought a couple of motors but they just delivered me one, the project hasn't started with the right foot...
I also bought the well known DPS-600PB as my PSU (12v 47A, 575W) and some other stuff that is on the way.

This is just an "OK let's start" post, I'll keep you updated with pics and news as soon as I got all I need.
Wish me good luck, and sorry for any English errors.

Welcome @Blame73 , JRKS are already there, its arduinos that are needing development.
do you have a thread in mind?
    Dave.

Good luck with your build :) I can't weld either, and chose wood and off the shelf parts from my local DIY store. So far - so good, I got to sit in a moving chair for the first time today :D

Yes I know JRKS are there and I saw a lot of your good stuff. I know it's there and I see it as a backup should this project sunk, but Arduino is more a challenge that I'd like to take and, being a developer, who knows, maybe I could give some little hand in making it better. A lot of 'ifs', since I haven't seen much code other than the little needed to move some tiny motors.

A thread in mind? Every project I see makes me want to copy it... a lot of wonderful works, again.
I found a great forum where I see a lot of people willing to help each other and is not just jealous about what he built not wanting to share the 'knowledge'.

I hope one day I'll be able to do it too.

Ps. Thanks @bsft for your donation. Really appreciated.
    Davide

Its already gone, but from a translation, is a drive shaft of sorts, and yes it looks to be good for a pivot, you would need to cut it down though
EDIT : just read your entire post above

I'm still unsure if go with a full frame or with something like this race desk http://www.xsimulator.net/community/marketplace/desk-racer-2-dof.91/ from @bsft .

I'd like to ask this: how is it driving on a race desk, having the seat the moves here and there and the pedals are stuck over there? they come closer when you brake and farther when you accelerate. Is it something you get used to?

I took inspiration from @bsft Desk Racer and then modified the basic concept further for my DX Racer project, which includes controls and quasi surge: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/dx-racer-compact-simulator.5866/

My DX Racer is configurable so can be a seat shaker like the original Desk Racer or can be full frame. I am in the process of changing the gearboxes to 60:1, as 25:1 is not able to hold the heavy Fanatec controls. I have not done enough testing to fully compare modes but it seems to be horses for courses, the Desk Racer design does a great job as as a race seat shaker, though the full frame is more natural for flight simming.

its just a variation of an existing seat mover. You get the feeling of being pulled away from pedals when you stamp on the gas and being pushed forward under brakes.
If you watch in car videos of the driver , you can see how they can get thrown around, even with seatbelts. Seat movers re-create that to some extent.
Full frames give you more pitch and roll feeling, but slightly less actual acceleration and braking feeling.

Ok, the building of my DIY 2dof has finally begun. I almost got it all, still waiting for a couple of things, but I just wanna start building it.

I'll go for a compact desk chair, just to start things off and then we'll see how it develops.

First ingredient for the recipe is the juice.
My PSU is the DPS 600 PB that most of you already know and suggest.
in the following pics you can see how I connected the pins.
I used an old AC97 wires from an internal sound card, connected pin 6-10 and 4-8 for power it on and keep the fan low.

Everything - well, just the psu right now - works. Let's see how it goes with the rest...

Not only does the fan mod keep the fan noise down, But from extensive testing with this PSU, the RCgroups guys have confirmed under Full load the Fan will Boot Up Speed to ensure thing's stay cool as a cucumber. :thumbs

yes it's auto adaptive. So good for a pretty cheap psu, I paid more for delivery than for the psu itself.

one question: Is it normal that the fun runs even if psu is off (only connected to power)?
