Question 2 DOF - Need help with setup please?

    Hi,
    I'm using the iRacing setup, but it seems there are no presets for 2DOF setups, so I was hoping I could get help:

    • Which motion features does my setup support?
    • Will they only work on Axis1a and Axis2a?
    • Will I only be able to set parameters on DOF 1 and DOF 2?
    • Are my force percentages too low?
    • When I drive, I turn the car sharply left and right, and my seat reacts like a boat or an airplane, moving in that direction. Shouldn't the seat be moving in the opposite direction?
    • My seat also seems to move backward when I brake. Shouldn't it be moving forward?

    Looks like you have a 2DOF simulator, where the pitch and roll axis is shared among 2 motors.
    Here are the steps to get started.

    1) In the axis assignments ( a ) section, load the preset for "SimForceGT" and click save for the 'Default' profile.
    (We may have to swap the directions of the movements, but its a great place to start, and we can fix it easily later if they are backwards.)

    2) Goto the Interface settings and set them up as they have supplied.

    3) Then go to the Output Testing area and turn it on.
    Move the sway and surge sliders and confirm there is movement.

    See how it goes and let me know if you have problems.
    We can continue on when we get this part covered.

    Just a note about @yobuddy's advice:
    Keep in mind that by default DOFreality rigs have reversed Dir settings.

    Thanks for the tips. I've applied the SimForce GT preset and made adjustments for iRacing as posted in that thread.
    I'll look into clipping once I get things working right.
    When I drive downhill my seat moves back.
    It also moves back when I break heavily. Does this mean that i need to reverse all of my pitch and surge settings?

    Your Dir settings (check boxes orange or not determine which way and axis moves) are inverted, which as I mentioned is common to DOFrelity rigs.

    Great, already have movement!
    As noorbeast said above, if pitch is backwards, check the 'Dir' boxes next to the surge inputs in axis assignments.

    Any way to edit Axis Assignments on the fly or do I have to exit the game running to do so?
    These games take forever to load :(

    You can use the button on the top left of Game Manager to temporarily disconnect the game from SimTools to make Axis Assignment adjustments, while the game is running.

    Hi,
    I don't understand. Why is one pitch direction reversed and the other not? And then some parameters have both directions reversed and others none?

    Are both motors reversed or only one?

    For example with pitch when one motor is 180 degrees out of phase from the other one must be reversed. Get it? It depends on how your rig is configured.

    The Dir box in Axis Assignments being checked orange or not determines which way an axis moves.

    When one motor is on the right and the other the left they will be opposite each other. When one is moving forwards for pitch the other will be moving backwards unless you reverse it.

    OK, I go up a hill in iRacing (pitch should be affected, correct?) and instead of leaning backward, I lean forward.
    The recommended iRacing settings are like so:

    Do i check Dir on Axis2a and uncheck Dir on Axis1a? If yes, does that mean that both motors are naturally out of phase?

    Yes and yes. Like I said it depends of rig configuration but a 2dof usually uses opposing motors. If pitch is working opposite of how it should though then you would uncheck pitch on axis1a and check it on axis2a instead. Get it?

    My guess is that this is a DOFreality rig, as the axis are reversed by default, which confuses their owners no end, is that correct @laserbeak43?
