I am new to here and Looking at a lot of posts. I ordered a DOF sim package. Never knew there was plugins, maybe I bit off more than I could chew. Want to use for racing and the rollercoaster for the grandkids. Im 71 and know enough about computers to get by with. So in all reality do you need plugins for every game you play ? Thanks John

Yes you do need a plugin for each game, though there is the generic Joystick plugin for those games that do not have a dedicated plugin. The job of the plugin is to provide information about motion so SimTools can have the associated hardware turn that into motion.

Have a read of the SimTools manual, it may sound daunting at first but gets easier once you get a handle on the basics: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/rtfm-start-with-the-official-simtools-documentation.117/

Then check out the FAQs SimTools section: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/simtools-settings-tips-and-tricks.18/category

    And Plugin section: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/plugins.3/category

The available plugins are here, which includes the likes of No Limits Rollercoaster and a vast array of race and flight gaes: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/marketplace/

Access to plugins is either via DOFreality supplied package, paid Xsimulator.net membership package or forum activity coins, DOF used to provide an installer as a commercial provider: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/coins-and-how-to-download-plugins.2/

There is a dedicated DOFreality thread: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...-3dof-6dof-motion-simulator-dof-reality.8570/

And another for plugin settings: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/dof-reality-platforms-presets-profiles-and-tips.11273/

Though keep in mind these tend to have far high Axis Allocation percentage totals than is recommended: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/axis-assignment-percentage-totals.120/

You have time to learn about and play around with SimTools while waiting for your rig, you can even simulate a basic simulator to experiment with: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/simulate-a-simulator.350/

That sounds like some very lucky grandkids....

It might be totally obvious, and is not related to simtools, but I hope you are aware that dofreality kits come with a license for Sim Racing Studio, which is compatible with many games?

Simtools is a more flexible software for people who are not satisfied with what Sim Racing Studio does. Simtools allows for much more tweaking and also for doing things completely differently. It is compatible with all kinds of hardware. It does require more work to get everything sorted.

Then there also is FlyPT Mover, which is a free software that allows for even more tweaking at the expense of having to define pretty much everything from scratch. So depending on how involved you want to get, these are the options ordered by increase in effort.
