    Hey there :)

Nice to see that so many ppl uphold the custom of introducing oneself here :)

My name is Frank, working as an airline pilot and have always been fascinated by 6DOF platforms. Every time before going into the sim I was standing there, watching the Full Flight Simulators at work from the outside, wondering: "How do they do the math???" Until one day, just a few months ago it occurred to me, that with a little... ehrrr... actually a lot of analytic geometry I could calculate at least the statics of those platforms. I was hooked! Then I thought a little more about it for a few weeks and slowly got a faint idea of how I'd approach the dynamics of it. I thought, maybe I could write myself a little program that...

Note that at the time I was convinced that I was the only person on the planet sick enough to spent his time on something like this. While researching the topic, I found you guys here, and it was a revelation!!!! I felt like a gay person, knowing he was gay all his life and all the time thinking he's the only one. And then all of a sudden I accidentally stumble into this "Christopher-Street-Day-Parade" of a forum :):):):)

...so, thank YOU for the support you're providing!

As soon as I have something noteworthy on my desk, I too will start a thread about my build, giving others the chance to avoid the inevitable occasional pitfalls of such an undertaking.

    Hey All,

My name is Mat, I'm from Sydney Australia, I'm 42 and I've been sim racing for many (MANY) years...

My current sim setup is as follows

Custom built high end latest PC.
    Custom built OSW wheel.
    Custom G27 pedals.
    CV1 (also have 25" triples).
    Custom built sim rig.
Just now installing a vibe setup !!

This whole setup was built and customized by myself....

Not sure if there's a place around here to show off your rigs but if I find one I will...

Hopefully I'll be building a DIY motion rig in the near future.... (fingers crossed)

Anyways, that's me and I'm off to do ALOT of reading..... lol.....

    Cheers,

    Hello from Utah, USA!

I'm brand-spankin-new to motion simulation. I jumped in on Thanos' 6DOF interface Kickstarter project. My *plan* is to create a Stewart platform to use primarily with Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D flight simulator (v4.1 as of this post).

My next step (once I receive the interface) is to create a mini-platform using RC servos, push rods, and craft plywood, then use that to help me test and select the appropriate software interface for Prepar3D and Thanos' controller.

My quest brought me here! ;)

    Welcome @Priam.

See here for a guide and code for your proposed RC servo powered model, including 3D printed parts if you want to go that way: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/build-a-working-model-to-test-your-design-ideas.216/

The FAQs are a great place to start your research: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

You will likely find the FAQ 6DOF section useful: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/6dof.22/category

And you can use the custom Google search top right to find all 6DOF projects, which are worth reviewing as they well answer some of your questions.

You can even build your own actuators: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/diy-linear-actuators.248/

    Hey.
My name is Alexander, I'm from Ukraine.
I've been looking through this forum for a long time. There are a lot of good interesting ideas.
I had a desire to make my own simulator.
The task - a commercial version of the car simulator for the house.
I chose the virtual configuration for start and started work!
    • Metal frame from profile + laser cutting + welding semi-automatic
    • Arduino UNO - DC gear motor 24V Transtechno - feedback 6127
    • Simtools 2.0
    I make the frame.
The task is to move along the 3 axes.
    • Motion - of Sway and Surge along the 2DOF axes, within the range of 0 - 27.
    • Motion - traction loss an expanded form. For this purpose I decided to make a design of the type - "Long pendulum".

I bought a license for Simtools 2.0 (October 3, 2017, by the way, the confirmation was not an email, it's not clear why?)
I started tuning Arduino electronics, calibrating engines and setting up Simtools.
The most difficult was to enter parameters in Simtools. English language is not native to Me, but Google translator created great distortions in the text, spent a lot of time, but figured out.
    Everything worked! Simulator Ready!

Cris talking, from Brazil. Nice to talk to you guys !!!!
I´m extremlly newbie, and my objective is to construct a complete project of 2 DOF motion simulator. After with more experience 3DOF.
Actually i don´t know where to start, i´ve tried to read a lot of posts about projects, but i´m lost yet.
I have weldering skills, product project skills, but i don´t know how to work´s the electronics of 2DOF motion simulator.

    Simple questions like:

    Motors,
    boards to control the motors,
    software,
    arduinos are used ???,
can i find a diagram to understand?

Thanks so much guys !!! And let start !!!

I'm hoping I will have an easier time with a motion control platform than I did trying to post my introduction. Nothing like a new forum to make an old guy feel old. :p
My name is Jordan from Verona, WI. I like electronics projects my son and I can work on together and this seems like the next logical stop after building a racing quadcopter.
I just found this place today, and I anticipate spending alot of time looking around. I'm amazed at the sheer volume of information. I can't wait to start a build.

See here about the relationship and revenue sharing arrangement between SimTools (software) and Xsimulator.net (community support): https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/simtools-and-xsimulator-partnership-explained.275/

You can either use real money or forum activity coins to gain access to plugins, see here for details: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/coins-and-how-to-download-plugins.2/

Thanks. I thought it is one payment for SimTools an the Plugins...but i am not the only one wo missunderstood it. Maybe one sentense "Plugins are not include" would explain everything :)

That would be up to @yobuddy to consider.

What it does say about plugins on the SimTools site is "Engaging with the community will allow you to download over 50+ game plugins and other companion apps that can be used SimTools 2.0."
