    Welcome @RioS.

You have come to the right place, there is a really active community here who freely give of their time and expertise.

You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs, from design software, dimension of sims, to PSUs, pots, motors, JRKs, Arduinos and Motor Monsters and more: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    Good luck with your project.

    Hello everybody,

I can relate to many of the posts in this thread - "stumbled onto this site", "overwhelmed", "reading through posts......trying to get the whole picture".......

.....I came here confident I knew absolutely nothing only to discover that I had no idea how much there was to know.........and that I have a long way to go to even reach the level of "absolutely nothing".

I live in Perth, Western Australia. I would like to know if anyone nearby is interested in talking to me about what I want to do. I'm not lazy or looking for freebies and I appreciate we are all busy - but I don't even know how long, realistically, it would take me to learn enough to be able to determine if my goals are possible and even that would be a big help.

I have been looking for something that is available to buy from a manufacturer, but haven't found what I'm looking for in Australia. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I'm happy to pay someone to do what I can't.

    Regards,

    Craig.

    Welcome @1341busa.

Many of us started exactly where you are now and still managed to complete our dream of owning a motion simulator via the resources and supports you can find here. One of the most experienced and knowledgeable members here is @eaorobbie, who hails from WA.

Start by working out what you want to build. Existing member builds can help you refine your own project ideas: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs, from design software, dimension of sims, to PSUs, pots, motors, JRKs, Arduino code and Motor Monsters, plus heaps more: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

We have a glossary for all those acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Feel free to ask questions on your build thread, even during the planning stage and definitely before you start ordering stuff.

    Good luck with your project.

Hey, this is insomagent. I just bought an LG 27 from my friend for $100, to use with my Oculus Rift CV1. I bought Project Cars (which I scoffed at for the longest time) and I was blown away! Then I showed a photo to my friend in Japan, and he sent me a video of his racing sim build. I was further blown away! Then I saw for the first time SilentChill's 6dof video and was further btfo.

I am a computer programmer and game developer. I've tinkered with Arduino for a long time, and I'm currently overwhelmed with all of this mechanical engineering!

I want to build a Stewart platform with 6 dof (which I just learned about today.)

I want to find out more info about how I should go about getting the linear actuators working, what sort of motor drives them, etc... where should I look for things like that?

    Welcome @insomagent.

I look forward to hearing more about your 6DOF project plans.

A 6DOF rig is a somewhat complex and costly endeavor, so take your time and review all existing relevant member projects: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

If you are seeking build, hardware and software information to get you started, then look in the FAQs: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

There is a specific 6DOF section in the FAQs, which would be a good place to start, particularly as a 6DOF is an ambition first project: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/6dof.22/category

You can also build your own actuators, see here as an introduction and then take notes on how others have made their own design modifications: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/diy-linear-actuators.248/

We have a glossary for all those acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

Good luck with your 6DOF project.

    Hi,

I'm Luke, I'm based in Adelaide, Australia. I'm a VFX/ Motion Graphics artist finished University last year and currently work with LED screen.

I'm been looking in to building a simulator for a while looking at 6DOF rig going to get my dad to help build this as hes a boiler maker by trade. Thinking about starting small making a simulator which uses my data to control a Lego GT3 RS model (42056), going to use this to rapid develop and test at a much smaller and cheaper scale. motors are not my strong point still researching what is best to use at both large and small. if i end up doing this small scale sim ill post images as i go.

Welcome @Luke Baldwin, there are plenty of us Aussies here.

See the post above yours re 6DOF information.

Building a model first, given a 6DOF is a somewhat complex and costly project, is a good idea and easy to do, see here for details: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/build-a-working-model-to-test-your-design-ideas.216/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Good luck with your 6DOF project.
