    Hi guys!

    Gary here from Ireland.
I started sim racing back in 2002 on a ps2 with a logitech force feedback wheel.
My cousin and I made a rig, when I was living in Boston out of an old rowing machine, some plywood and a plastic bucket seat bought from Jegs!
    It was Awesome!
When I moved back home I fully intended to build the MK2 rig, but getting married, kids, and house building ensured that it never happened......
So last year I bought a new feedback steering wheel and started looking online for ideas for a rig.
Then I found this site and I've had a headache ever since trying to get my head around finding motors, how to power and control motors etc, etc.
Anyway I've decided to build a 2Dof that I'll eventually add traction loss, at a later date.
I'll use Arduino with MMs to keep the cost down and I may use the scissor jack motors as they seem tobe the most cost effective option for me.
Anyway, I just want to thank everyone involved for all the info (and the headaches!!) and I hope to start a build log in the new year.

    Happy New Year all!!!

Hi!, new member from Scotland but living in Norway.

Always played f1/forza games on xbox until last year (2019) i built my first gaming pc.
Since then mostly play iRacing but also own F1 2019, AC,RF2.

I joined because i was reading all the posts about direct drive wheels to help with my own build.
my build is here if anyone wants to look. next plan is to hopefully make some hydraulic pedals to replace my thrustmaster tx pedals.

Anyway thanks for all the great content you guys put up.

    Hello there everyone!

I'm the new guy in town (for now) so I thought I'd introduce myself. I've been a motorsports fan ever since living next to Kyalami GP racetrack back in South Africa when I was 11 years old and woke up to the sound of "Beasts roaring on a Sunday morning" which essentially led me on a 23 year journey to register an account here at XSimulator ;)

With that said, I've finally settled on the idea of building a motion simulator to augment my love for motorsports and sim-racing. I've settled on a 6DOF with g-Seat combination for my first simulator project.... ever. This should be fun :) I expect this project to take between 12-18 months to complete which gives me some extra time to budget, plan, and learn Fusion 360 on top of actually building something cool (hopefully).

Anyways, that's enough from me for now. Thanks to everyone who has helped so far, and to anyone else who chooses to help me on this project in the future, you're the real MVP here!

    All the best,

    MagicMunkyNuts.

    Welcome @MagicMunkyNuts.

That is an ambitious first project and it is great to see you are being realistic with things like the probable project time line.

    Hi Everyone,

I created an account a few months ago, then work got in the way and I completely forgot about introducing myself.

I have a long-term goal of training to become a commercial helicopter pilot. For the first few years I'll be splitting my work with my current job, flying in the summer, working in my current industry over the winter. To not get rusty during that time I want a solid simulator rig to keep my skills sharp. A 6 DOF platform may be overkill but that's what I'm going for (for now).

All of this is a long way down the road. First I need my license, then a capable workstation with peripherals, VR setup. The motion platform will be the last step. So bear with me.

I did have some spare time over the holidays though, so I went ahead and built a 1:10 scale model, which you can check out here.

It's great to be part of this fantastic community and I'll have a ton of questions once I tackle the full scale rig no doubt.

    Welcome @Reinhold R.

It looks like you are off to a great start and building a model is a great way to go when it comes to a complex and potentially expensive project.

I look forward to following the development of your full scale rig.

You will find that DC motors are much quieter than actuators. Some members have tried soundproofing enclosures for actuators. This is what the SCNs sounds like: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/scn-noise-damening.323/

    Good luck with your project.
