Hi Poman My rig was driven by ians BFF program , I never fine tuned the platform due to controller issues, sorry I don't have Simtool pre-sets per say .. the Project is side lined at the moment due to my work on the linear actuator type 6DOF ,, will start posting again soon as the last of the material/Bits is starting to arrive & my credit card Is still intact LOL:) actually our rolls are now reversed as im the one watching you fantastic and well built project ....We learn from each other and so make great progress Nice work Sir

Hi @SilentChill check out my posts under " "Diy linear actuator design" will be updating my posts in the next few days as the last bits ordered are begining to arrive so watch that space,,, the design owes a lot to ideas I got looking at @SeatTime project and i hope my unit will perform well enough to do the job .. cheers guys

Hi Guys - this is a bit of a thread revival !

i see you went over to linear actuators and i know silentchill did the same thing

is it because there was a problem with the motors and gearboxes or did you just fancy a new challenge and want to evolve things more ?

i have 6 motors wheelchair motor/gearboxes and am thinking about evolving from 2dof to 6dof

I built linear actuators for the following reasons:
    • Almost double the efficiency of a worm screw.
    • Length of motion does not change output torque as it would with a lever off a worm screw.
    • Basically no gear slack, therefore greater resolution and no gear rattling in fast transitions.
    • Because there is no slack and no actual gear teeth, breaking/damaging gear teeth due to high shock loads is not a issue as it would be with a worm screw gearbox setup.
Once I demonstrate these as a working proposition, The other members then decided to follow suit for I guess the same reasons.

what type of gearmotor did you previously use ? i have a set of wheelchair gearmotors and they seem to be silent and backlash free

is there a video of your sim running gearmotors ?

That's great, but I and many others have never been that lucky in finding a low cost worm gear box with zero backlash. There are numerous threads/posts on gearbox backlash issues on this site. In the end just trying to answering your question, nothing more.

Hi @hannibal great to hear from you nad congratulations on finishing your Motion platform , its agreat feeling once all the hard work and learning is done to feel these creations come to life . with all this madness in the world at moment i guess were all pre occupied and trying to make sure were still here once it calms down .

So far were doing Ok but scary times ahead for most people, Mind you at least i have a chance to get some Sim time with my 4DOF setup and while waiting to upgrade the 6DOF actuators to AC servo motors,,

Im a self confessed maker so the main buzz is designing and seeing the end result work ( thats my excuse for being crap driver still LOL ) .

Keep Safe Guys and i'll be around in background still marvelling at how we do what we do here for the love of it :)
