Flight sim fans are in for another treat this month as Prepar3D V3 is to be released on 30 September and includes a raft of significant changes: http://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv3/LearningCenter/what_is_new/new_v30.html

The licensing and Digital Rights Management (DRM) system has been completely overhauled and V3 will be treated as a new release, so no upgrade path for V2 owners. The new installer now split into three separate components which can be updated and installed independently: Client, Content, and Scenery.

Further on the downside it is not clear how fast 3rd party content will be updated, there is no 64bit version or DX12 implementation.

It is hard to say if the existing motion plugin will be affected. VR fans will be pleased to know that the Oculus Rift is fully integrated into core and will appear in the camera mode list if connected. Other significant changes are:
    • avatar control
    • the support of high quality SpeedTree models
    • improved memory control and unused terrain details not loaded
    • HDR graphics and water reflection improved
    • new content such as the Virtavia Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk and India India Alpha Foxtrot Echo F-35A
    • and a bunch of other improvements.

Prepar3D V3.0 is about to go on sale today, so here is the overview of what is on offer: http://prepar3d.com/news/2015/09/113061/

Personally I am going to hang off for a while to get further views and details once Prepar3D is released, particularly as FlyInside brings excellent wide ranging VR support to both FSX and the current version of P3D and in many respects, other than integrating Oculus support, P3D V3.0 seems to me to be more of a stability point release than a genuine upgrade.

I think the memory management improvements are about the most significant change for non VR use.

I don't totally agree with the video review comments, most of the focus is bug fixes and genuine change, such as 64bit support are not on the radar.

I will be waiting a while before I consider if I will upgrade or not, as I am more interested in the enhanced capabilities Flyinside offers than the recent changes to P3D itself.
