Flyinside FSX has released an alpha build so you can use the Occulus Rift with the Steam version of FSX: http://alpha.flyinside-fsx.com/

The free alpha coincides with the Kickstarter launch of Flyinside FSX: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1232710074/flyinside-fsx?ref=discovery

The Kickstarter cost is not cheap but the developer has a proven track record, having already developed DCOC which provides Rift support for Prepar3D. Flyinside FSX has many more planned features than DCOC, including the ability to use other applications, such as your music play or chat list inside your virtual cockpit.

Have you tried it @noorbeast ?

I would of rather he make it for P3D as I have that all setup nice and don't get any OOM errors at all unlike FSX which is plagued with them as soon as you start adding stuff on.

Shame he didn't kickstart for P3D as I would of backed for $65 but FSX is old news time to move on and P3D is where it's at especially when Win10 and DX12 is released FSX will be left even further behind.

    I'm a bit gutted really ;(

I will try it when I get my sim back together.

The same developer made DCOC to enable Rift support for P3D, which is superb but does not have the features planned for FlyInside: http://www.dcoc-vr.com/

The reality is that FSX has a huge user base compared to P3D, so I can understand why the developer is targeting it. Yes FSX is old but this developer has been one of the best at 3rd party Rift support, including built in asynchronous timewarp to get around low frame rates in both DCOC and FlyInside, excellent in-game menu access, and pure simplicity of use. The planned features mean you can use your virtual cockpit as a virtual desktop and not leave the VR or the game to do mundane things like check the forum and change your music tunes. The likes of ED, AC, DCS, Pcars could earn a lot from this guy!

FlyInside FSX has already passed its Kickstarter funding goal.

Daniel, the developer, now has a stretch goal to add Leap Motion support, so you can use your hands to toggle the interactive cockpit controls. Finally, Daniel has also hinted at a Prepar3D implementation of FlyInside FSX type Rift implementation (bet that would make you happy @SilentChill) : https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1232710074/flyinside-fsx/posts/1286971

Daniel has publicly stated that he intends Vive support, but does not have a dev kit. The community is lobbying Valve and Palmer Lucky to issue both a pre-release Vive and CV1 Rift as early as possible, so that FSX and Prepar3D could be launch titles for both VR HUDs. It certainly would get the flight sim community on side.

Yeah he has done well. I got a nice reply to an email I sent him asking about P3D and he confirmed that he will work on it if the kickstarter was successful.

    Awesome news :D

Good news, Flyinside for Prepar3D has been formally announced as a Kickstarter stretch goal, as has flexible viewpoints and DX10 support: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1232710074/flyinside-fsx/posts/1289696

I consider that FSX and Prepar3D will be at the very forefront of VR flight simulation and it is amazing that solo developers often outclass big teams like ED, DCS, War Thunder, AC, and PCars for quality usable VR implementations.

Daniel, the developer, advises that FlyInside Beta 0.11 is now available for download and includes the following enhancements:

    Oculus 0.7 Runtime Support
    Several crash fixes
    Improved 3rd party aircraft compatibility

The largest change is the upgrade to the Oculus SDK 0.7. This opens the door for Windows 10 users to start flying and helps future-proof FlyInside!

While SDK 0.7 support is great keep in mind 0.7 breaks Rift support for any game that relies on extended mode, so think twice before upgrading your runtime.

Flyinside V1.0 has just been released: https://flyinside-fsx.com/Products?v=10

This release includes in-cockpit virtual windows, a full virtual desktop viewer, binocular zoom, a magnifying glass, Leap Motion support, and more, including some bug fixes. This is one of the few VR related Kickstarter projects that really nailed everything that was promised and more.
