My DIY 2DOM Simulator

    Hi guys,
    I'm starting to design my first 2DOF DIY simulator. Everything is based on these 2 wiper motors from an old car.

    I will use an Arduino UNO with the SMC3 firmware to drive them.
    The project is to create a RIG that simulates the cockpit of an F1 car.
    The RIG will be attached at the rear with a gimbal and on the front will be placed the 2 motors that will allow simulating the various forces of the car.

    I started to design in Fusion 360 the simulator cockpit. Soon I will post some renderings.

    I will continue to keep this thread updated to show my progress.

    If I put the wiper motor over the wood, do I still need to ground it?

    Yes as you need to electrically ground isolate the wiper motors, rather than just mount them on low conductive material.

    UPDATE 23/11/2021

    Hi everyone,
    I tested the motors today to see if the external chassis was grounded, but it's not, so I think I'm fine from that point of view.

    Regarding the power of the motors, I was thinking about a design with the universal joint placed in the center of gravity of the rig and the two motors in the front, theoretically, it should work.

    Oh, I forgot to mention that I ordered the drivers for the motors and I'm waiting for them to arrive in the mail so I can start testing.
    In the meantime, I will continue to design the rig and maybe even build it.

    Hi guys,
    I have some important updates.

    Yesterday I finally got the drivers for the windshield wiper motors and I proceeded to build a testing rig to test the software working with the hardware and surprisingly everything worked as expected.

    •·················•·················• QUESTION: MOTOR STRENGTH •·················•·················•
    Now I have a question,
    Since the motors are not very powerful I was wondering what is the best length of the segment that connects the motor with the uni-ball in order to minimize the stress on the motor.

    In this video, I did a test to establish the benefits of the different lengths of the segment mentioned above (shown in green). Obviously the longer it is the greater the displacement will be, but I am afraid that it increases too much the effort on the motor.

    Let's talk now about the structure of the simulator
    Since I decided to go for a cheap solution, I looked for an alternative way to do the seating.
