Dimensions of a 2DOF motion platform for SimCalc

    Just wanted to ask as Im following the schematic of Smc3 with arduino given on the page of xsimulator. I just need some clarification.

    I was integrating arduino , motors and motor driver. The so far integrated setup is shown below

    I found out that there is no direct connection between motor driver and motor (also as mentioned in the schematic). Is that correct? Do we need to connect motors to motor driver ?

    I'm confused because on the IBT2 motor driver there are pins that are labeled for motor pins . As we have to connect motors to those pins. As shown in the figure.

    Do we have to connect motors with these pins. Or we should connect motors directly to the power supply?

    Hard to judge the actual size from a photo, but the uni joint needs to be robust enough to resist lateral twist.

    What does pitch force and roll force mean?

    Does that mean it requires 1162 N pitch force to rotate the motion platform ? Is this the force motors should be providing?

    The pot needs to be connected to the motor shaft via some form of flexible coupling, as per the video at 25.49, as it provides positional information. The pot and IBT2 are wired as explained and as per the SMC3 wiring diagram. The motor and power connects to the IBT2 via the green connector block:

    The connection of motors with motor drivers and connection of motor driver with power supply is missing in the diagram. That needs correction because its too confusing.

    I have connected motors power supply pot and arduino. I uploaded the code set the com port in arduino and smc3. But the status of the motors in smc3 is still off. Need advice

    The pot should be mounted and attached to the motor with some sort of flexible coupling: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/how-to-connect-protect-a-potentiometer.13/

    Just to be sure can you please confirm the SMC3 code was set to Mode 2 and successfully uploaded to the Arduino.

    These are the steps to configuring SMC3, at which point does your setup not respond as expected:

    1. Disconnect the motor power supply
    2. Make sure Simtools is not running – we’re not ready for that yet!
    3. Wire up the Arduino (with SMC3 installed) to your H-Bridges and connect to your computer via USB
    4. Run the Windows SMC3 Utility software and make sure it communicates with the Arduino (There is no need to set baud rates, they are not configurable)
    5. Set the Kp, Ki, Kd, PWMmin, PWMmax, PWMrev to 0 for ALL motors (This will make sure the motors don’t move)
    6. Set Clip to 255 (you need to do this first) and Limit to 255 (This will give you plenty of margin if something goes wrong while setting up)
    7. Turn on the power to your motors – nothing should move at this stage!
    8. Set Kp to about 400
    9. Now slowly, increase PWMmax… at some point the motor should start to move. When it does check the “Green” feedback line is moving toward the “Blue” target position.
      • If it is then that motor and feedback is wired correctly - proceed to test other motors.
      • If it is moving away turn off motor power immediately (or quickly reduce PWMmax again). In this case you need to either reverse the wires to the motor being tested –OR– reverse the +5V and GND wires to your feedback pot for the motor being tested (do not do both). Restart the test from the beginning.
    10. Do the above for each motor

    It is not the required pitch force, but rather generated N, given all the parameters given as input to describe the motor specs driving a given rig design.

    All was setup correctly. Mode 2 was also defined on arduino. Today I re-ran it and it worked correctly.i dont know what was the problem.

    According to point 5 and point 6 the motors will not move on this setting
    1. Set the Kp, Ki, Kd, PWMmin, PWMmax, PWMrev to 0 for ALL motors (This will make sure the motors don’t move)
    2. Set Clip to 255 (you need to do this first) and Limit to 255 (This will give you plenty of margin if something goes wrong while setting up)
    I copied the same calibration but my motor is moving. :(

    I dont know whats the problem now :eek::oops:o_O

    I am sorry I can't get anything meaningful from that video.

    Is the pot attached and does the motor respond as expected at steps 7 and 8 of the SMC3 setup?

    Please post pictures of settings rather than video, it is much easier to understand.

    No the pot is not coupled to the motor right now.
    As I turn the power on the motor start rotating. Point 7 says that motors should not be moving.

    The pot provides positional feedback and should be attached via a suitable flexible coupling, as per previous advice.

    By turning the potentiometer in one direction or the other you should find a point where the motor stops and continuing to change direction
