    Hello!

I've been into Sim racing and Flight Sims (iRacing, DCS) using VR for a quite a while now. I've build a couple wooden rigs, and even added some Bass Shakers for added immersion. However, I think its time to take the next step. I need motion. I've spent a bit of time researching DIY actuators, and was very close to diving into a SFX100-esque build. I say esque, because I plan to use a Thanos board. I'm a English speaker and it seems getting a sponsor would be nearly impossible for me. Ive also been told by a few people that, while the Thanos is more expensive, it just works. No fiddling. I had thought that I could build a 4Dof rig, and then add a TL and Surge platform sometime down the road. However, In my YouTubing, I discovered two 6Dof, designs that look amazing. I'm assuming the immersion would just be that much more with these types of platform instead of something like what I stated.

Inspired by these, I have some concerns.

I like the compact nature of Knaufinator's design and while I'm very handy and pretty mechanically inclined, I don't have the ability to fabricate metal parts, or weld. I'm assuming this would make this project nigh impossible?

On the other hand, I 3d print regularly. And it seems most of SilentChill's rig is 3d printed and Extruded aluminum. This project also seems less than half the cost of Knaufinator's. However, I'd very much prefer a smaller footprint.

I'm proficient in soldering, so that's not a concern.

So, a compact, cost effective 6Dof platform is what I'm after. I'd like to keep the cost as low as possible, while still being effective. What advice can you offer?

Thank you so much for any help you can give!
