    Evening all,

    Andy in the UK.
Was very close to buying an H3 from DOF Reality but decided I just can’t justify the money so have decided to build myself.

I’m planning a 2 DOF with traction loss, probably going to base on wiper motors and JRK controllers.

I studied programming through college/uni and spent most of my career as an engineer, plus built my own kit car so hoping that I should get on alright with a sim!

will likely start a project thread once I’ve got some bits ordered up...!

    So hi!
    Andy

    Welcome @Pekwah1

You will find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs to get you started, in particular check out the fundamentals of motion and the design section: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

Be aware that wiper motors generally need to be ground isolated: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/wiper-motor-mandatory-ground-isolation.25/

You can go through existing member projects for specific build ideas or inspiration: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Or search for specific types of projects using the Google Custom Search function on the Recent page: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/find-new/posts?recent=1

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    Good luck with your project.

    Hi Folks,

Bill from Perth, West Australia. I first saw Gianni's excellent 4DoF simulator last year in an electronics magazine (Silicon Chip, September 2019) but had too many things happening to do anything about it then, but now with more home isolation going on there's no excuse not to make it.

I've fabricated the frames and only need a small universal joint to complete the build, some electronics and code loading to the controller still need to be done but I'm almost there. I still have to purchase the steering wheel and pedals and decide on what platform to run it all on... but the main thing is I have a huge amount of reading this forum to see where to go from here.

What I've seen so far is Assetto Corsa appears to be the most used game for realism with car racing so I will start there - I've never had time to play games so am open to other suggestions if this is incorrect. I will upload what I have when progress is made so others can see the project.

    Regards to all,
    Bill

    Welcome @wjsmarine.

You will find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs, including controller options: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

If you plan on using wiper motors, like the original, then they generally need to be ground isolated: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/wiper-motor-mandatory-ground-isolation.25/

In Australia we have the option of more powerful motors from Motion Dynamics: https://www.motiondynamics.com.au/worm-drive-motor-12v-24v-200w-180-rpm-20nm-torque.html

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here and detail what you plan to use hardware wise, as members can give advice to ease setup: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    Good luck with your project

    I want to introduce myself.

Always busy with building things. So that's where my company started with building 3D printers. Fun to do but i am missing just building something fun and cool.

One thing i always wanted to make is a race simulator. Now i stumbled on a project here (FlyPT 6DOV) and i really liked his approach of the sim. So i want to build myself a simulator to play in my free time at home!

I hope i can learn a lot from you guys! As i seen super projects and knowledge to share.
Ofcourse i will post my build project here!

Hope to become a proud member of your community!

    Welcome @Daniel van Mourik.

Any 6DOF is an ambitious first project. So doing some research before getting in too deep is time well spent.

@noorbeast thank you! I know it's an ambitious project but as we are building also ambitious machines ourselfs as work (see our 3D printers of 3.5m height) i think i am able to pull it off with your help and the community!

I would love to make my first race on the sim ;-) and yeah there will be some frustrations but that's the fun about a project like this!

    hello all,
I am new to motion simulation but not sim racing/flying
I have just sold my HTC vive, and pre-order a Reverb G2

next on the list is a Yaw vr , as it looks to cover a lot of bases and not take up alot of room
being able to be used for flying or racing.

I am a flight simmer from germany. Mainly looking here for software setup tips for my dofreality h2 platform, but also interested in solutions for belt tensioning. Besides my H2 platform My rig consist of:
    • Valve Index VR headset with single lighthouse
    • Leap motion hand tracker
    • Water cooled PC with i9900K overclocked to 5 Ghz, 2080ti
    • Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas
    • VKB flightstick with Cosmosima (left handed) and F14 grips
    • Saitek Yoke and Throttle combo
    • Goflight rudder pedals
    • Htc vive tracker
    • Home made monitor stand for the dofreality H2
    • Bimarco Cobra 3 bucket seat
    • Pearl Throne Thumper buttkicker
    • Kensington trackball with scroll ring

i have some ideas for the design of a cheap and effective harness tightener using bowden cables, just so many plans and so little time... so it will take some time for that plan to come to fruition

    Hi Guys,
My name is Mac McGarrigle, originally from Wales, and I live just outside Houston, Texas close to NASA JSC. I used to Rally in my youth and was doing really well until I moved to the USA and got married... My car was a Ford Escort RS2000, full International Group IV tarmac spec. I want to duplicate the fun I had doing the British and Belgian National Championships. However, I am building my rig slowly starting with Yaw and Traction Loss first to duplicate the handling characteristics I want. I need help for sure but I will ask those questions in the correct location in the forum and also post my rig as I design and build it.
I would love to meet someone to chat with who has already done Yaw and Traction Loss.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.
    Cheers, Mac

Hi all. I am Tero from southeast Finland living in a city called Kouvola.
Have been lurking here on background for a long time. Registered to forum already couple years ago but never been really active in posting. Anyway I find myself often from the forum reading posts and searching info.

Simracing has been my hobby for a long time now. I mostly in drive VR. Used to have an oculus rift but now been using HP reverb.

Have wanted a motion rig for a long time but none really fit the budget or my needs, until i found out about SFX-100 last year. I was not really sure to start building it or not.

Beginning of summer decided to build it (SFX-100). Project is now in drivable state and everything seems to be running fine so far. But nowhere near finished with platform, lots of tidy up etc. to do still. Huge thanks to people who made building the SFX possible by sharing designs, writing shopping lists and build instructions. It was quite fun building it. There was also some small issues, but dont want to say more about it now as I may create a thread of my build.
