Hello, I'm from Mexico, I'm here because I'm really curious about motion simulators and I'm starting to gather information to start learning/designing what I need to make my racing sim cockpit a motion sim, also I'm very interested in DIY actuators, and what comes first to my mind is a racing motion simulator with actuators in the four corners plus a yaw mechanism, so am I right to assume it's a roll, pitch and yaw simulator? 3DOF? as you can see, I'm very new to this, and I have a long journey to learn and make what I have in mind. Also, I mainly race in iracing, but looking forward to project cars 2.

    Hi,

Just started a thread with my build. (https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/flypt-6dof-brushless.10799/)
Hope it's useful for someone in the future and a way to get some help here when in trouble.

I'm one of those guys who love DIY, only problem is free time...
Been lurking here for many time (2010 ) and never got the motivation to start a build.
Always looked for a 6DOF build, and seeing so many being built, I had to try myself. :)

    Hallo everyone,

Lodewijk here. Although I've made a few posts here, I thought I would introduce myself formally.

I'm researching all aspects of simulator building to (hopefuly) make my dream flight simulator come true. The plan is for a spitfire cockpit (probably frames (ribs) 7 to 12), fully functioning flight instruments, functioning flight controls on top of a 4 DoF motion platform (roll, pitch, surge an heave) with reasonably large range of movement.

Thats the dream. Now I'll need to research to try and make it a reality.

    Welcome @Nitros54.

Have a look at existing member builds, that may help you refine your own 3DOF project ideas: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs, from design software, dimension of sims, to PSUs, pots, motors, JRKs, Arduino code and Motor Monsters, plus heaps more: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

We have a glossary for all those acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Feel free to ask questions on your build thread, the members here give freely of both their time and expertise.

Good luck with your 3DOF project.

I everyone My name is Aaron and I live in North Carolina. I guess I would say that I am just starting my research to understand simulators in general. I think it is amazing what many people have accomplished here. I desire is to build a 6Dof simulator optimized for racing maybe something similar to SilentChill's first build.

I have made the decision to build in wood as I don't have metal fab facilities. I am a little concerned with my skills and to be honest I would be more comfortable duplicating an existing design or finding some kind of kit. Wiring and and basic soldering I am OK with, more concerned about how to get the design right, software configuration and motor selection. I have an old racing cockpit (obutto) that I would like to re-purpose. Also think I will use VR rather that mounting screens.

So for now I will continue reading and trying to assimilate information. :)

    Hey all,

Pete here from upstate NY. Mild lurker and contemplating the next step to building a sim rig (obviously, why else would I be here)! BS in computer engineering, currently funding all my projects as a mechanical engineer for a production machine shop. In my spare time I restore vintage cars (mostly VW's and some Mercedes) and over the past two years have been competing in 24 hours of Lemons endurance series with a Ford Focus I built specifically for the series (I certainly don't consider myself a "real" race driver, I'll lay that right out to start, but improving my track skills and the car are one of my new obsessions). Been a huge fan of racing sims since college and stumbled upon this site looking for a better wheel and have started at least making a mock shopping list to see what kind of trouble I can get into!

    Cheers!

    Welcome @Red_shift and @Xyclone.

If you are seeking build, hardware and software information to get you started, then look in the FAQs: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

There is a specific 6DOF section in the FAQs, which would be a good place to start, particularly as a 6DOF is an ambition first project: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/6dof.22/category

We have a glossary for all those acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

Hi all! I am Sami from Jyväskylä/Finland and also ended up here as i have been always interested to build simulators and cockpits and have been playing various racing/flight sims and now also Elite Dangerous. I havent never build similar project but i am keen to start one to make 3 DOF simulator to use with my HTC Vive VR. I try to gather information and plans and should start to manufacture frame and order some parts in few months. I have few friends who work as welder so i can use their expertise to manufacture any metal frames&parts i cant make with simple tools.

    Hi all,

I'm a new user from Southern Africa. Just purchased a Prosimu T1000-3 as doing my own scatch built rig is unfortunately not an option. I would be focusing on setting up Simtools 2.x when my platform arrives.

    Take care.

    Hi,

I'm Travis, also known as Virus. I've always had a deep love of racing from a physics/math perspective. Then I stumbled across iRacing a couple years ago, and while I almost never race, I spend a lot of time of the skid pad testing different aspects of the physics engine.

Currently I have a custom built static rig running triple 40s set at 1:1 ratio with 179° viewing angle, EDTracker, with transducers on each corner under the game chair with one transducer on the pedal box.

I may build something more elaborate later on, but at the moment I'm fine with my static rig. Plus I'm apprehensive about devoting a lot of money to a rig a may not enjoy because of multiple plastic vertebrae.

Looking forward to digging into the forum.

    Welcome @TVirus.

There is a great deal of cool projects and information to be found here, which may inspire you, and not just for motion as there are also diy peripherals.

You may also be interested in Game Vibe for transducer support, which is currently under development and is in closed testing.
