There are pictures on my thread of my 3d printed guides. On wannabeaflyer2's thread he just has a tight fit between the ali profile so it doesn't twist too much and SeatTime uses a rod with linear bearing to guide his.

You did not look hard enough all the information is here somewhere matey ;)

I disagree. Not strongly, but I disagree. :)

The information is (almost all) there, but it is not easy to find.

You named my 3 references: You, SeatTime and Wannabeaflyer2.
I had seen the Wannabeaflyer2 wide guide between his open builds extrusions. I found it simplistic and had hard time to believe it was is final design. It looks like a lot of friction. But hey, what do I know? He does not mention it in his parts description.

    wb.JPG

I looked at page 1 one of SeatTime thread. There is a nice picture of a rail guide, probably what I will be using. But it's hard to tell what size it is (7mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm?) and since the price does change with the size. I would like to know if he know what I could get away with, if it's noisy, if he's happy with that design? Again, not a single word about it in the part list.

    Actuator Main body - internal.jpg

Last but not least, your thread. I checked the now popular page 25. No luck, not a word about guide in the part list.
Now you tell me there is picture of it somewhere. Dude, your thread is 40 page long!
Still, here I go, checking the images one by one. Found them (page 27-28). I had seen those before, when I did not have a clue what it was (just learned what a V Slot Wheel is). But since I have no printer, I doubt I can go that way. Too bad, it looks nice.

Still missing information about the size of the guide rail. My knowledge about those is not strong enough to just guess and order out of the blue.
    Still looking.

Good work ;) I think SeatTime is away at the moment so you will have to wait for his return.

There is another one with a guide rail but can not remember who but I would presume a 10mm guide rail would be sufficent as it is only to stop it spinning. I would also use plastic linear bearings as that will cut down on any noise, similar to what we use for the ends of the actuator rods in ours.

No! THIS is a space station from my original Elite game (on Commodore 64):

    box.jpg

Wait a minute! This has nothing to do with Elite. Right away, you can tell this box took a lot of beating and lacks some good loving.
And this tune in my head: "giggles bell giggles bells giggles all the way..."
    What could be inside?

    floor.jpg

Here they are! All my 1605 ball screws, 500 mm long. Man, I was expecting them in June.

    ballscrews.jpg

I should be happy, right? No. Not really. All I can feel is this horrible feeling: "What did I get myself into?". I can't go back now. The scope of the project starts to frightening me a bit. Breathe Pierre, breathe.

And those little couplers, they won't fit with the motor I am thinking of. How will I attach those BK12 to a structure with so little space at the end? Oh! Can't you feel the panic installing into my mind?

    pieces.jpg

I have so many questions, and I didn't even finished to design my elite stat... my actuator.

    Expect extreme questioning from me.

I ordered my motors, directly from Powerhouse. Every time I spend so much money in one go, I have this guilty feeling. Just like when I bought my Vive.

I know I could have look for cheaper motors. I know I could have bought only one for testing. Unfortunately, I don`t work like that. Do, or do not. There is no try.

    @SilentChill , I have 3 questions for you.

To connect your motor to the 1605 shaft, you drilled a big hole in your black base wood to clear the coupler, right?

    motor_plate.jpg

Do you have the part for the Ingus bushing handy? I found out there is a plant in Canada (or a distribution center) and I would like to try to ask for samples. :)

Why do we often see microphones in your pictures? Is the simulator installed into your Karaoke room? :)

Yes I did drill a bigger hole to accommodate the nut and the coupler
Yes I drilled a bigger hole for the coupler :)

You must of looked at the picture but not registered it :D

Yes the microphones were from a Karaoke machine lol well spotted, my room was a mess for a long time but its now much more tidy and the microphones have gone to the junk yard.

Thanks. Sorry for not registering the picture, the hard drive of my mind has been full for a long time. Every information that do not in the nature of "womanly design" gets deleted quite fast.

Busy week for my poor wallet and my trusty credit card. The cat is there for size reference. :)

    IMG_1430.JPG

Two package are totally unrelated to simulators.

    IMG_1432.JPG

But the rest are my Carbon Tubes! I won't have much choice to start building those actuators soon.

Perfect timing. I am sending a mail back to the retailer for igus bushing. They will send me one (only one... :( ) bushing to test and give me a quote for the 5 others. I will ask a quote for those as well. Thanks.

I started to add to the first post of this thread all the things I bought for this build, while I have the information. It may help people evaluate the amount of money needed to build a 6DOF from scratch.

Look what I found on my door step.

    IMG_1435.JPG

The paper says: Sample free of charge, best success!

    IMG_1436.JPG

    It looks great.

    IMG_1437.JPG

Perfect fit. Will wait for the rail sample and probably order the 5 others with the rail if all fit.

Bonjour Pierre, c'est l'fun de voir un autre Quebecois intéressé par ce genre de passe-temps.
Je vais guarder un œil ici car j'en construit 1 également.
