    Hey @Cristian1991
I haven't tallyed it up, but a rough estimate of the cost of this wooden prototype NOT including the tools I needed to buy would probably be around $1500 - $2000 Canadian dollars. I probably paid more then I needed to on Ebay for these 3 motors.
If you wanted to buy an off the shelf motion sim you would probably be looking at $5000-$10,000 for an entry level. So doing it your self is WAY more cost effective. Plus you get the added benifit of being able to fix anything that you don't like or that goes wrong instead of having to send it back to the manufacturer. And you get to learn a bunch about physics, electronics, woodworking/welding, etc. Stuff that you can take with you to your next project. And you get to be a part of a niche community that is extremely helpful and welcoming.

Hi Nick hope all is well, very inspiring clip of your motion sim. Great Job. Please tell me where I can find the plugins for Dirt Rally 2.0 for Sim tools? I can't see them on the list of games for download. I appreciate the help.
    Regards

    Thanks @Tshepo
As for the plugins, if you are talking about the latest version of SimTools (V3) it is available under Plugin Manager (in the bottom right of the SimTools screen), then on this page you should see it under "Game Plugins".

If you are talking about SimTools V2 you can find the download link here https://www.xsimulator.net/community/marketplace/dirt-rally-2-plugin.224/
But you need to buy the plugin package with cash or with xsimulator coins inorder to be able to download it.

I am no adding motion compensation to my platform using this software: https://ovrmc.dschadu.de/
and I built a stablizer for my valve index controller which is what this tracking software uses to determine where your body should be. Which is why you attach it to your platform, so that you won't pop outside of the car when sliding sideways in Dirt Rally :)
One of the things I am trying to do is iminimise the vibrations. I cut up a yoga mat and used that between the bar and my seat and between some of the nuts as a sort of rubber washer.

In hindsight I shouldn't have used a flat bar for this, a square tube, or even angle iron would have been better because up at the top the bar can get a good wiggle going, which is why I had to put a stack of yoga mat between the bar and the headrest, to try and mitigate this movement.

I just recieved a new mig welder from my inlaws! So I will be soon rebuilding this all in metal (when ever I can source some cheap metal), and at that time I might improve the stability of this. I could weld a little fin down the flat side to give it more stability.

Also, up to this point I have mostly just been building and configuring, but last night I had my first full race (in ACC) and MAN OH MAN!!! this was totally worth the effort, the platform adds SO MUCH to the fun factor. And that was using triple screens, I can't wait to dial things in with the motion compensation and be able to get into VR with it.

I have a Valve Index. Id like to have a higher res headset for sim racing, but I play other games with the index that work well with it's hand tracking.

Well, I am ready for some welding! I got a new flux core welder during Christmas and I am going to begin rebuilding the platform in steel. But first to practice my welding skills I built a freestanding triple screen monitor stand because one of the problems I had with my motion platform was that my screens were so far from me sitting on my desk that it really didn't feel very immersive. Now with this stand I can pull the screens right over my direct drive so I feel more like I am in a cockpit. I harvested some of the brackets from my existing monitor stand (which ment I needed to get this right or I wouldn't have any monitors for work the next day haha)
I built the whole thing on steel uprights that have spaced holes that I am using for height adjustment. My horizontal bar that has the monitors attached can be moved up and down to what ever height I need. The thing is sold like a tank and it works great.

This is the gap I was looking at on yours. See how it is wide at the top, narrow at the bottom, and the right monitor is slightly above the center one. Maybe it goes away once you rest it against the middle monitor. Mine does not. I have to clamp them to get everything to come together or it will just open back up.

Ah i see @Richard Ortengren , I am using vesa mounts from an old monitor stand, and they have the ability to rotate, so I can rotate it to make them parallel to the center monitor. If you dont have those mounts you can probably find them on amazon without having to buy a full monitor stand.

Hey all, I uploaded another quick video of my rigs motion while playing some AMS2. Please ignore how horrible of a driver I am and the fact that I have the beginner cheverons on the road to tell me what to do haha.

I am hoping to get any thoughts on how the motion looks in comparison to whats happening on the screen.
I have been having some trouble in VR with feeling a little woozy and I think maybe I have an axis backwards or something.

I would suggest that with VR and motion less is more, speed and precision of motion is way more important than large axis movements.

So use lower axis allocation, particularly for surge, try 20, and perhaps smaller Tuning Center values. Do one axis at a time, see the FAQ tuning tips: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/steps-to-create-a-motion-profile.228/

I made a lot of progress on my steal build of the cockpit this weekend. I already have the bottom and middle platforms started but I spent the entire day yesterday cutting and welding the pieces together for the upper cockpit.
Having a welder makes life so much easier :)

I am making the seat adjustable so it can slide forward and back. And I also am making the wheel height adjustable up and down and also forward and back. So the only thing in a fixed position will be the pedals, but the other adjustments points should make that ok.

I am going to hopfully figure out the shifter and handbrake mounting this week.
