Grab a copy of the SimTools manual and keep it handy for reference: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/rtfm-start-with-the-official-simtools-documentation.117/

The Dir boxes in Axis Assignments determines which way each axis moves, this is what SimTools expects: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/which-way-to-set-simtool-axis-movements.230/

The Joystick plugin page provides the basics for setup:

    How to use:
    Run GameManager in Admin mode.
    Select the "game" Joypad.
Patch by selecting the installation directory of SimTools.
The patch installs a program "SimTools_Joystick.exe" and "SimTools_Joystick_Recorder.exe". These programs do nothing than trigger SimTools to read the Joystick values.
    Run GameEngine & GameEngine.
Run SimTools_Joystick.exe or – if you want to record the data – run SimTools_Joystick_Recorder.exe.
Play with your joystick and observe the values in TuningCenter.
