    It is a real pain but until we know what messes up localhost reinstalling may be the quickest resolution.

    Before you do would you mind downloading and running Belarc: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

    It is a useful record of your current install but may also be a basis to see if there is a pattern with the machines that have this particular problem, in terms of what software is installed and how the network is configured.

    I get the same error after disabling ASUS service (which resolved the NOT CONNECTED for me).
