Thanks @noorbeast for your insight! After looking through the DIY build thread I'll definitely be changing my design. I'm now thinking of using Unistrut and wood to build my frame to get around my lack of access to a welder/grinder using a universal joint and might even consider upgrading to a loss of traction design ;)

Going to start sourcing parts this week. Thanks again!

    Matthew here,

I have been working on my sim for a couple years now, but never got around to actually posting anything. Decided I should probably stop being a leech and actually participate in the community haha. My build is a 2DOF wiper motor/arduino/motomonster seat and I have it partially functioning at this point. I am able to get the chair to move with Dirt 3, though there seems to be problems with severe lagging response of the seat. sometimes it will react in sync with the game, other times it will have a several second lag, other times it will not respond at all...So far I have a few ideas on this.

-I am using a DC Stanley jumper battery as a power source. Not sure if this can cause issues with current
-I have been using alligator clips, which may not be suitable for the currents I am running.
-Maybe my computer isnt fast enough? not sure if this is a factor.
-I am only running through one motomonster, perhaps I need one for each motor?

If anyone has expereienced any of these symptoms, feedback would be helpful! I dont wanna clog up this thread though, so I'll start a build thread.

    Hi guys
New to the world of Motion Sims, my son has been sim racing for the last 5 years with a reasonable set up and races the real thing 4-5 times a year.
At Xmas he up graded to 3 32" curved monitors and this now gives some sort of feeling of movement.
So the next step is to get some sort of real feeling maybe 2DOF shoulder shaker with heave for drifting effect, also working with minimal space.

Let me say that there is so much information and sharing on this forum that I have spent nearly the last 2 weeks since finding it just browsing through a few of the threads.

I will introduce myself now I am 59yr old live on the Gold Coast, Australia, work as a R&D, maintenance engineer so have 45 years of building & wrecking warships, high speed packaging lines, pneumatics, abit of electronics etc and the last 12 yrs have dabbled in CNC machines, I have a small CNC router, a benchtop CNC milling machine and a small lathe/drill/mill and access to a decent Mig welder.
So I can make 99% of anything I can think of.

So now it is time to start the full research into what we need to get this project on it way with some quality gear and within a workable budget with a little help from the members here.

    Thanks John

    Hey there.

My name is Tom. I'm a 32 years old software engineer who never grew out of computer games. In this very moment, I just ordered material for my own little two degrees of freedom project. I've read and learned a lot here in the last two months and finally decided that I should be ready to start this now.

I decided to begin with a compact seat mover type of simulator, as both room and spare coins are my limiting factors. The design iteration from @pipis2015 was the one that inspired me the most and which I will try to lean on, during my journey.

What I also wanted to say, that besides the premium free content, the member's competency and friendliness, I really like the concept of this community. And I have to be honest and say that I'm only here for the coins. So this is really a great way, to get the lazy writers, like me, to add their part and share (at least an introduction post :)

Welcome @Knauba, good to see your lurking days are over ;)

It is a great community here, particularly when many other communities related to simulation can at times be quite toxic. Members here give freely of both their time and expertise and are a friendly bunch who share a common passion.

I will look forward to following you 2DOF compact build, when you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    'Welcome @Djay-k.

When you are ready please start your own project thread here and tell members a bit more about your simulator: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Just a friendly word of caution, I want to politely let you know that an unfortunate side effect of your enthusiasm as a new member when you make multiple posts like 'Hellooo', 'Wouaaa beautiful sim' and 'Good job' in quick succession on other members threads is that you risk getting reported or even banned from the forum.

Please be aware that such posts add nothing to the thread information, the thread builder does not get reputation points as you have not used the supplied emoticons and it pointlessly pushes other more relevant posts down the thread list. So instead just use the supplied thumbs up or Winner icons and the members concerned will be automatically notified of your support for their project.

    Hello everyone

I just arrived on your forum that seems to be a bible for simulators to make house
I embarked on this project to please my boy
Totally beginner in this field I will need information
I almost finished the construction but I'm blocking
Have just warned me that there is a new version of simtools v2
The problem is that now it takes a liscence, I wonder how to get this special version for home simulators?
another question ! Or post the photos of my simulator and possibly show the different stages of construction to allow someone else if he wishes to realize it?
    I thank you in advance
Ps: excuse my English robotiser because I am of French nationality and I use our friends google translate;)
