Hello everyone, I plan to build an electric focuser using a NEMA 17 stepper motor. I have some questions during the selection process and would like to ask for your advice:
1. What is a suitable holding torque for a focuser? Is around 40 N·cm sufficient, or is a higher recommended?
2. Is it necessary to choose a NEMA 17 with a gearbox, or can microstepping drive meet the accuracy requirements?
3. Is there a significant difference in focusing accuracy between a step angle of 1.8° and 0.9°?
Apparently, this happens due to the motor heating up during use. This is a genuine Z-axis stepper motor from the 12/19V series M2, which is known to get very hot, so maybe it just reached the end of...

at my last Italy vacation trip, I also went to Maranello. (Guess why?)

After visiting the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, I’d had to take a test ride with the F1 simulator too.
To be honest, if you never drove one before, it might be impressive. But it isn’t really that great.
It does have some movement and a belt tensioner to simulate braking force which is nice, but not spectacular at all.
But the worst thing is the missing force feedback, which made me struggle...
