While I was ill, I received several inqwuiries about how to host a GTR Evolution game server and what ports need to be opened in order to accomplish this.

Here is my better late than never answer

You will most likely need to open ports in two seperate locations. Once on your hardware firewall, and once on the Microsoft Windows box that you are hosting the game on. The key to getting this right is understanding that you must open a port range, not an individual port. On most hardware based firewalls, this is simple and you can just enter a starting port and an ending port. Here are the ranges that you must open for a GTRE server to function properly.

Unfortunately, the standard windows firewall does not provide the ability to enter a port range! This means that you will need to undertake the time consuming task of entering each individual port in the range above. As an alternative, if you are using Windows Vista, and are knowledgeable about firewalls, you can utilize the 'Windows Firewall with Advanced Security' management tool. This tool is located in your control panel (classic view) under Administrative Tools.

Hopefully this will help the community to get some GTRE servers online.
