    Congrats

And as far as I see, you have converted your joyrider to AMC1.5 control finally.

How was the feedback? Did the car batteries last long enough?

    Regards
    Christian

Yes, I was preparing it for some time now but didn't had the chance to finish it at home. As you know, the Greeks, are known for doing miracles on the last minute... It was actually completed on site on the Athens Digital Week area!!!!

I have charged the battery only once before the event and lasted playing all day for the four days that it was available to the public to try it. I can calculate that more than 100 people tried it!!!

As you can see on the video that the Amp meter is shown, the motors have little consumption and only peaks of 20amp when the two of them are moving together!

I also took there some of my robots that can be seen on the next photo. Its the flower, the six-legged bug and the tank robot, posing in front of the robot soccer team:

    About the position feedback... :D

I have decided to use Magnetic hall effect sensors: SS495 Ratiometric Linear Solid State sensors

    http://content.honeywell.com/sensing/pr ... c20020.pdf

I have placed in the joints of the frames exactly like I was doing with the potentiometers, and placed some pieces of neodymium magnets from old PC hard drives facing them. Its a cool way to measure -45 to +45 degrees and very immune to noise!!!! Their resolution is about 12-bit.

    PICT2254.JPG

    PICT2228.JPG

    PICT2236.JPG

Another thing that did for first time was to enhance the safety. Thats why I used a control panel that I could watch Voltage and Ampere status of the battery and added Power Line Cutoff switch for the motors. Another measure was that I used a key operated switch to power the AMC, with detachable key, in case some kid was messing with the buttons and got it power it on by accident while I was away for lunch!

    PICT2250.JPG

    PICT2247.JPG

    PICT2248.JPG

And of course added 10amp fuses that could save the mosfets in case someone was lying about his weight. :brows: I was authorize people that weight from 65~85 Kg on it with minor adjustments on the seat (yeah it has rails!) to balance properly their weight!

    PICT2251.JPG

In overall I was happy that it was gone well without any failures, especially when I was live on TV !!!!! :D :yippiee:

Now I feel a bit sad that it was ended and too tired to put it together back at home!!! I had to almost unscrew it to pieces to get it fit in my car!!!

Looks like fun. Wow, how long did it for you to assemble and disassemble it at the show? Awesome job as usual.

    Let me count...

    2.5 hours disassembling at home,
30 min to load it to car (I live in third floor)...

1 hour of driving to the Athens Digital Week event area.

15 min to unload it from car (I had some help there).

2 hours to assemble all mechanical parts together.

Another 1 hour to attach the electrical and electronics part (I had to double - triple check everything)

And about 2 hours of calibration of the position sensors and the AMC firmware. I had to limit the motion to -30, +30 degrees on both axis cause I felt a little responsible for the safety of the test drivers visitors

9.5 hours total... And this is only for getting it to the event....

You should add the hall sensors feature to the AMC thread

    Hi,

Here is some more video, I dig up from my camera, from the Athens Digital Week show...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58NmXpLe8_A

-I had to disable the pitch axis when I let my friend's kids test drive it because of the huge unbalance...!! It worked well in bank motion only for the little fella though!!

    Hi,

next time you should spent your price money for a child seat

Must say that it is a horrible picture to see your joyrider dissassembled lying in the corner. Did you still assembled it again?

    regards, René

No, its still in that corner... :( Its really heartbreaking for me to see it in that condition too.

If I find some time in between from designing and testing the new projects, I might put it back together and luckily I'll upgrade some parts of it a little more...

Hi Thanos. While planning and building my wersion of Joyrider, I wonder if you or someone else have tried a sim with the frex/scn5 setup, and compared it with Joyrider. Which sim gives the most realistic feeling???

    Hi Thanos!

Tell me please, you connect these sensors directly to the microcontroller, or use an additional amplifier?

    Thanks.

No additional amplifier or anything is needed...! These magnetic hall effect sensors are ratiometric and work within the 0-5v range. You can connect directly like a normal potentiometer... you just have to be sure to read the datasheet for the pin outs...
