Has anyone built a 3DOF motion platform using 3 actuators rather than 4? If would be cheaper and you would never have one foot off the ground.

Three actuators is the norm for a 3dof, notwithstanding the recent rash of peg leg 4 corner actuator rigs. The main thing to keep in mind is that the base is big enough to provide stability and the actuators powerful enough to drive the rig at a desired perfomance level.
