the motor position is ok as long as it works for you. As long as motors connect to the frame at point of its pivot, in your case, shoulders, you will get the best effect.

Bit of an old thread revival here!!

I have decided to renew my old simulator as it hasn't been used for so long! The plan is to simplify the design and to try and make the thing a bit more compact as I am quite short on space now.

I've decided to remove the traction loss axis, upgrade the motors and re-do the mounting of the pedals and steering wheel.

Here is a pic of progress so far!

And here are the new more powerful motors

I think I may need to upgrade the JRK12V12 motor drivers to the Sabertooth 2x60 as am suffering from the dreaded motor driver error drop-outs.

    More updates to follow!

Hello @SimonUK , I'm in the UK as well and planning to build a 3DOF , just trying to source some good motor/gearboxes, what ones are you using now? and where can I purchase them from. Thanks Lee.

    Hi Lee,

I purchased my motors from a company called motion control products. I got them from their Ebay store

    Specs are below:
    12VDC, 23Amps, 65 RPM
    90ZYT-155-
    MCP4 60:1 gearbox

    Hope this helps!

Thanks @SimonUK for the fast reply, I think I spoke to these guys before, and was then put off for reading some place that the gearboxes was not very strong , have you had any issues so far ?

I also see that h they had a larger 24volt motor , was you not tempted with that ?

    Thanks Lee

No issues so far but I haven't really used them in anger yet. They are probably a bit overkill for my shoulder mounted seat mover. I went for 12v so I could power them from a car battery.

Here's a quick initial video of progress so far. Profile is only running surge, swap and heave so far. The new motors feel much nicer!

Nice looking job there, and as long as it moves well, you are set.
