Eagle Dynamics have taken over development of DCS WWII and the original team, RRG, have been disbanded.

I made a donation to the DCS WWII Kickstarter project and was receiving Iiya's weekly newsletter, then they suddenly stopped a few weeks ago. I posted on the ED forum to find out what was going on and was told to read this thread:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=125454. It's a shame the original team have gone, but ED do deliver so I am hopeful they will be able to deliver DCS WWII within the timeframe they've stated.

I hope you find this helpful.

ED will be releasing a fly able Fw 190 in August. That will give DCS a left by allowing online dogfights between two comparable aircraft.

Its just a bit of a shame this happened but at least us backers will get something out of it. I get the feeling it might be a long time before we get any WWII style ground targets and for some reason I'm not sure we will see the D-Day map for a long long time (Nevada anyone?) :(.

It is sad for DCS WWII, but given the developer history with the initial Cliffs of Dover debacle perhaps not surprising.

Cold comfort but IL2 BOS is progressing and shaping up as a decent WWII combat sim option, having just hit Beta: http://il2sturmovik.com/

Even IL2 BOS development has strayed a bit. Last I checked there was no progress on integrating Rift support, which had been loudly touted as an initial selling point. The promised Rift support was the only reason I got BOS when the first alpha was released, so I am pretty disappointed on that front. I have run IL2 BOS on the Rift using TriDef but was really hoping it would be the first flight sim to really nail Rift support.

Of course there is always War Thunder as an existing mix of air and ground play. But even there it is not hard to find plenty of current grumbles on the War Thunder forums regarding the plan to drop aerial only simulated battles, which was formally for the more hard core WWII simmers. And of course there has always been ongoing complaints about poor joystick implementation, though a lot of that concerns the arcade implementation.

I have not tried it but I have read that with the huge amount of work done by the current mod team, Cliffs of Dover was finally beaten into being a pretty good WWII combat sim.

Guess everyone may have to settle for one of those DCS WWII alternatives to satisfy their combat sim itch, as I expect it will indeed be a very long wait before DCS WWII approaches anything like a full combat sim.

Yes exactly the same for me with IL2BOS......I want my rift support. Actually after playing the first couple of months beta I am starting to regret paying a$100 for it with no cockpit switches etc. Almost feels like a step back to 2005. And CLoD is quite good now with the third party patches. At least the Occulus Rift DK2 is running in DCS....I think DCS and FSX/p3D with the VRS Tac Pac are really the only combat study sims at the moment with rift and Simtools support.....Should be getting DK2 in next week or two but am still hearing lots of resolution complaints...oh well just have to wait for CV1 Rift or stick a Galaxy Note 4 display into it. DCS FW 190 out this week for backers.:)

Wings of Prey is great on the Rift via TriDef and has simtool plugin.

BOS can also be used with the Rift via the Tridef drivers. But yes I am disappointed about the lack of native support.
