    Hi Archie,

have you every set up several amazon aws instances included geo located based server? From a view of traffic multiple server are not needed at the moment but the problem is definitely the round time and amount of hops between clients from the other hemisphare and our server which is based in germany.

I am migrating our resources to a maxcdn powered paid account for a test first. This only needs less time and effort.

    Lets see if thats helps

Hi @RaceRay - Yes, we use and support various AWS services at work. Given the traffic patterns, likely overkill though. A global CDN much better, however it looks like maxcdn charge the "Australasia tax" for CDN to our region ;) (US$12 p/m)

@Archie @bsft @eaorobbie @yobuddy @value1 Forum resources has been switched to maxcdn. Can you check if your loading times are better?
I had to order a extra package for Australasia which costs 15 bucks additional a month. However this additional costs are covered by the advertising income here, so no problem.

The same for me, and I used different DNS resolvers.

I suspect the CDN cluster will take some time to propgate DNS as I'm still routed via the .DE routers.

    Thanks guys.

I have to make more clear:

I only changed our resources images and files to the CDN. The website document itself is still routed to our german server.
I hope this gives a performance boost nevertheless as all connection hungry external files are now delivered from server located near by you.
You should see a big improvement in loading especially on pages with a lot of images.

If this is still leading to package drops or broken downloads i, ll consider to change our dns to maxcdn server as well...this will be done in a second or third step. I first want to try out all less time expensive operations.

Cool. I can see by the devtools that images are coming from your maxcdn account now.

Only problem I guess is with externally hosted images posted by members, then proxy.php has to fetch that.
I noticed the large images on HoiHman's thread are externally hosted. Maybe a limit on pic size here would help?
Or display in a thumbnail with a click through for full size (Like the forum currently provides for local uploads)

I'm just talking out loud, I have no idea if even possible on the forum code :)

Really appreciate your work on this @RaceRay

@Archie Have a link for me for "HoiHman's" thread?

    > I noticed the large images on HoiHman's thread are externally hosted. Maybe a limit on pic size here would help?

When they are externally hosted i can not think of any other way than using a xenforo forum plugin which is able to fetch this images from externally and upload it on the xsimulator server automatically.
Technically its worth a try to increase loading time of such threads but from a administrator viewpoint i am fearing this could lead to unwanted images uploaded to our site.
This can lead to serious legal issues due to several reasons (think about non legal images, etc....)

Imho, its better to ask people to upload images with the native forum uploader.

I haven't had much of an issue since last change. Site always been a little slow and patchy just accepted that as normal considering the traffic we can experience here.

Just echoing what @eaorobbie says, if it was not for this thread I would not really consider the site to be having an issue.

Yeah, sometimes the pages don't render correct etc, but a refresh usually fixes it for me. Sometime I get a timeout, but hell, sometimes I can't get Facebook to load / work and they have millions $$.

Compared to some forums I have been on, this place is like silk!

Are the loading times significantly faster than before? If not, i will remove the CDN. It makes no sense to pay monthly for a service which has no effect for us.

@bsft you were crying the loudest about having performance glitches but i have not heard anything regarding this from you.

I only get issues every now and then on my phone with menus overlapping or not displaying at all. Same as above, a refresh will fix it straight away.
Never thought it was slow to begin with.

Thanks Alexey, this could be the google translation widget. I could disable it for a test.

value1 also noticed, that logging out and in again could fix this overlapping-on-first-load glitch.

Sad to say that it may be a tad faster but it seems about the same for me with threads that have lots of large images, many of them won't load. I have had plenty of practice and am adept at opening the images separately in another tab, so if you need to change back I will cope.

It's been fine for me before and after the change. If it's costing you money, I'd revert the changes. :)

I was happy before, no worries.
