    Hallo!
I use this worm drive https://www.motiondynamics.com.au/worm-drive-motor-12v-24v-200w-180-rpm-20nm-torque.html . Now I would like to replace the gears and install bronze or steel gear instead delrin gear. I know that there is Mcp4 but it's very expensive. Do you know if it's possible to buy onle the gears and not complet gearbox? Or do you know if someone can produce the same gears in steel or bronze? the ratio I need is 50:1
    thanks

    Hello,
I asked about the same here in the Forum.

    @noorbeast said to me
I didn't try it until now, so I think best would be to contact motion dynamics.

Those gears came out of a gearbox Motion Dynamics had damaged the case of while testing it themselves, they were not purchased.

Why are you adamant on replacing the Nylon gear ?

@gigi . If you are going to repair/replace gearboxes , I take it you chewed them out from too much load on the sim. Pardon my ignorance , but do you have a photo amd or link to your build.

I just asked to motiondynamics and they answered me that they can help me.
They suggest to ask to motioncontrolproduct in uk. I asked to them...i'm waiting

I have yet to have a gearbox yet, even brand new, that does not have some small free play, be it 25:1s or 60:1s. I don't think new gears will resolve yours.

Having the arms slightly loaded in their rest position will help mask a small amount of free play.

I had to suspend the project a few months ago for time . These days I wanted to take , but I realize this issue which I think is due to plastic gears of the gearbox

I did not have time to remove the gear unit to verify the problem . engines are practically new have a few hours of use. It could be a fixing pinion shaft of the motor and not a bad coupling to the gear of the pinion ?

The Gear box play is a NON issue. Every box will have that play. Its a Worm gear, It CANNOT be rock solid tight or the gears themselves would eat each other alive.

you're probably right but for me it is problem . this little game as well as making noisy movement to change direction with the use could break gears

we use the 180 deg of the 360 deg rotation from our gear so you can test the other 180 deg that you haven't used to see if you have the same amount of play with your gear before buying a new replacement gear but i don't think you need it

While there are some gearboxes designed for minimal backlash they are somewhat rare and costly. Most wormdrive boxes have some backlash to allow for proper lubrication. Under constant drive or with occasional reversal it is not really an issues.

Ours is somewhat unusual case where we want to constantly reverse the motors at high speed, so the backlash is more apparent. Some members have resorted to using gas struts to maintain a consistent load on the gearboxes. As I mentioned earlier having some load on the gearboxes at rest also helps somewhat.

@gigi , I looked at the video of you wiggling the lever. And as several people have stated, the worm gear motors are not 100% tight. The wiggle I can see is not an issue in potential breakage. If its a bit noisy, then turn up the volume. Also you are using what looks like a 80mm CTC lever, so any play in the gearbox will be exaggerated.
Try what insangr suggested and turn the gearbox 180 deg, re-attach the lever and give it a wiggle, if it does the same thing, then its the gearbox itself.
The only time I have seen 25:1 boxes fail is from bad design, and thats 2 shoulder mount sims that were not balance properly, and one "desk racer" style sim.
