pc giving me 100% disk usage

    Hi all
    Ive just set up my PC and all was running well until Sunday. it started to slow down unbelievably. Ive just rebuilt it and ordered myself a rift. i had no issues setting up the rift and it work perfectly first time, considering the aggro i had with the dk2.
    the problem i have got is the disk was running at 100% and the pc is running like a pig. I decided to factory reset and its still running at 100% with nothing running or even installed yet. i bought the new board, Ram and processor as i couldnt seem to run the DK2 without issue and i still have trouble

    new spec is
    windows 8.1
    z170 gaming motherboard
    16gb DDR4 RAM
    i7 6700 6th gen
    GTX msi gaming 1080.

    when i first set it up the thing was amazing for all of an evening. everthing seemed instant. Now its a mission just to install everything. I have googled and tried various things such as superfetch disabling, windows search disabling, adjusting virtual memory to 16gb and 32gb for max and its still the same.

    Have any of you had this as im dying to reinstall simtools and get up and running again so i can just turn it on and play but ive not really used it for the last few months as ive had constant problems

    There can be multiple causes but it would help to know if it is Win 10 or something earlier.

    On Win 10 Chrome, Skype and Background Intelligent Transfer Service are all possible culprits.

    there are so many people with this issue its unreal. just finishing reinstalling again from full wipeout and will try again.

    windows 8.1. i did notice about background intelligent transfer on here while my other PC is restoring. ive not tried that one yet but will look for it. i wasnt sure if it would work on 8 but worth a go.

    Will you check if you have a scheduled defrag task.
    Open Task Scheduler -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Defrag
    Disable or delete the task.

    I've seen this problem on a few clients PC's, however there isn't a "goto" solution for it.
    Try this one above first, as its simple to try.

    got to be an issue with windows 8. ive just done a fresh install. left it 10mins to start up with task maneger running. i opened windows explore and it hit 100% straight away

    Maybe turn off drive indexing and see if it makes a differance?
    I can’t think of much else it would be doing on a fresh install, besides looking for windows updates?

    i did have them all installed before it started going wrong. i have just reinstalled the motherboard drivers again but not installed any of the other crap that came on the disk. all is fine so far. i just did the same with the gtx 1080 drivers without the crap and again it was all ok. im just installing the nvideo geoforce drivers so will check after that is finished. ive not seen the disk above 20% while all this is going on so hopefully its resolved. i will run the updates tomorrow after work, but i wasnt even getting as far as this with 2 previous resets and installing drivers. it was just maxing to 100%.
    Im waiting for a pci-e 4 port usb to arrive thursday or friday and then that will go in and ill get the motion setup at the weekend hopefully. i would rather the usb's at the back out the way.

    i have cables all over at the minute. i need 12 usb's for my setup

    all good so far. its not suggested updates after 4 restarts so far and all needed drivers are installed. ive just turned it off for the night but tomorrow ill start installing steam and my games again, with the rift and then sort simtools ready for a couple of days playing at the weekend while the Mrs is working away. Well thats the plan if i get no more problems
