I suspect getting your hands on a Vive dev kit would be like winning the lottery.

I have applied too, with a (real) virtual shopping and data managing (in a Minority Report style) project.
Let's see if they appreciate it...

I wish to tell everyone, while its not a VR headset, I find that Nvidia’s 3dVision on my 67” dlp television with trackir5 is quite awesome as well.

I posted over a year ago I was having problems with 3dVision displaying graphics properly in my cars mirrors with most racing games. But that was using a 460gtx graphics card. I have since switched over to a 770gtx (with more memory also) in order to run a triple screen setup. I’ve had that setup running for over a year and never tried the 770 with 3dVision until recently since I’m not able to run 3dVision in surround on my dlp sets. But I finally decided to try it on one tv and there are no more problems with the graphics in my mirrors now and everything is displayed beautifully in most all racing titles. Perfect 3d is displayed on a dlp television without issues with ghosting etc. I turn off everything except the “yaw” axis in trackir software and a motion platform does not affect it what so ever, even with heave. When racing, looking left and right is really the only thing I need to do anyway. And with a 67” screen @ 1920 x 1080 resolution I run in cockpit view already so I don’t need to look up or down to see gauges, etc.

A 67” screen also does a good job of filling your vision when its only 5 feet or so in front of you. Other positives are that it works quite well with just about every racing title, new and old alike. There are no issues when using motion and head tracking when setup as I have. Also, since the screen is not directly in front of your eyes like a VR headset, there is no screen door effect. And, I will add that 3d makes it easier to find the best racing line more so than have a refresh rate of over 60fps on a non 3d display in my opinion.

Again, its not a VR headset though. So I don’t expect you die hard VR headset fans to want to try what I use. But for others, they may want to look into 3dVision for now until VR headsets mature more and get the tracking issues resolved when using motion with them. And you can also have beautiful 3d with great older titles that VR headsets will more than likely never support.
