I bought them from robotshop.com. Opted for the stainless steel version. The exact ones are here: http://www.robotshop.com/en/12mm-set-screw-key-hub.html

They also have aluminum ones (http://www.robotshop.com/en/set-screw-hub-12mm.html) that are much cheaper, not sure if they would be strong enough though.

Mounted the seat back tonight with a new seat bar for the u-joint. Nothing too crazy

    Thanks for the complements.
My next post will be the "Complete v1 Build" post, I will put a full parts list there, but for now I'll list the main things with links:

Motors (x2): Mack Wiper Motor (Sprague E-008-113)
Motor hubs (x2): 12mm Set Screw Key Hub RB-Nex-100 from RobotShop
Pots (x2): Uxcell a15082600ux0077 Carbon Linear Variable Potentiometer with Diameter Knob, WTH118-2W 10K Ohm
Driver: MotoMonster from ebay seller alice1101983
Power supply: DELL JU081 Poweredge 2950 750w Power Supply (Refurbished)
Ujoint Flange (x2): World American 2-2-479R Flange Yoke (DL-FY-1310-PDM2.7500 FFC1.3750)
Ujoint Yoke: Spicer 5-153X U-Joint Kit

If I were to do it again, I would find wiper motors that had the standard style threaded shafts that normally already include small arms so that I could avoid buying the hubs to attach my custom motor arms. I originally liked the idea of being able to remove the hubs from the motor shaft whenever I wanted but they had a small amount of play so I have since used Permatex 64000 (loctite 640) to make sure they will never budge during normal operation.

Looks great in black and the painted room. Think the cat will also love it :thumbs
I like the potentiometer. Perhaps I will upgrade mine too.

Well guys, I know I said my next post would be a full overview of the final version marking this build "complete", but I just suffered a catastrophic motor failure during a race. Edit: "catastrophic" might be me being a bit dramatic...

The worm drive snapped on my newest motor. I was able to test out the emergency kill switch, which I realized was JUST out of reach while harnessed in with a motor in full-down position, so that was a stressful few seconds of chaos in VR trying to figure out what was going on.

    Here's the carnage
    IMG_20170814_233425.jpg

I think I can salvage this piece off of one dead motor I have... but is THAT ONE just going to fail on me in a couple weeks? And if I replace the whole motor that means I have to torch off the motor hub and redrill the potentiometer thread for yet another motor.
Just frustrated venting tonight, I'll come up with a game plan tomorrow.

I think this is pretty much how most wiper motors are constructed, I think I just got unlucky with this one.

My plan is to replace that worm gear with a spare I have, and if that is successful then I will shorten my levers to reduce the mechanical advantage of the seat acting on the motors which should prevent this strain in the future.

If that doesn't work, I'll be getting the 50:1 version of the motors that noorbeast linked off of ebay and I'll redo my arms and motor mounts to accommodate them. I'll have a hard time still calling this a 'budget build' if I get those though.

Oh no. Hope this was a one-time production deficit. If this happens again... should think about it.
Something I fear with my Sim too

I was able to remove the main drive with worm gear from a spare motor, but I'm having difficulty removing the main drive from the motor with the broken worm gear. Work will continue into the weekend on this. It's a bit more invasive than I imagined it would be...

I had some time over my lunch break today...
I decided to stop wasting time tapping at the shaft while it was attached to the rig making no progress. I removed the motor with the broken worm gear from the rig (motor mount and all so that I didn't have to remove any of the loctite effort added a few weeks ago) so that I could really get a good solid WHACK at it while in a vice to dislodge the bearing, and it worked with the first hit!

I now have a complete transplant installed, just need to verify that ground isolation is good and put the cover back on it. Hoping to be back in business tonight, just in time for guests to arrive so I'll be unable to race because of the noise ;)

Hey armpit, How long did you make your cockpit and how wide. And another thing where did you get that shield for the monster moto and the Arduino. I really like your setup. If you get a chance could you put the dimensions of your cockpit thanks.

The screw shield is a "Phantom YoYo Prototyping Board" found here

I'll attach the sketchup file to this post (in a zip since .skp isn't allowed to be attached)

If I were to do it again, I would probably go 6-12 inches longer to get more angle out of the motors, and I would mount the motors on the outside edge rather than the inside edge to gain some angle for additional mechanical advantage and precision for roll movements as well.

Here's a pic that shows a general overview of dimms for my design
