    Was going to start my first tests - very successfully until I did the SMC3 Square test. The enormous demand of ampere has blown away my two expensive fans, they have been wired to the same PSU where the motor is connected :-/.

    You might want to invest in a small 12V car battery or a capacitor bank to reduce some of the back-EMF voltage, given that you're pushing the motors pretty hard. I'm assuming that's what happened because the voltage spikes tend to be the worst during sudden changes in direction (like with the square wave test).
