    Good evening, everyone!

I'm looking to get a little community feedback on my setup. I'm looking to modify my Playseat and I'm yet to decide if I'm going for a 2 DoF or 3 DoF build. The plans is to do a lot of combat flight simming and a little bit of driving , and I worried about investing in 6 DoF (even though I really want to) when I'm coming into this as an amateur and with an artist's budget.

I currently own 2 JRKs that are safely mounted in acrylic housing. I may cave and buy a 3rd if owners of a 3DoF can vouch for the worthwhile gains in immersion. I know that JRKs limit me to 200W motors/PSUs, so that is going to influence that scale and intensity of the sim.

I'm waiting to buy the 12v motors from ebay until I'm certain of what I'm doing with the build. My worries are about the range of motion I can safely achieve in this tight space, and how to build a platform upon which the weight of the playseat can safely rest (I'm no engineer and possess no power tools). For reference, the space between the brown step in the back and the dresser is 3 ft 8 in, or 111.76 cm and the space around the computer is largely non-negotiable. The Playseat extends from the wall to the back of the chair at 4 ft 5 in, or 134.62 cm)

So I wanted to see what the community thought: what is ideal here? 2Dof Shoulder mounts? 3 DoF with a heaving plate? Also, has anyone modified their racing Playseat to include space for joysticks? The desk is separate from the Playseat - I'd like to ultimately use an Oculus Rift when it finally releases and mount the tracking camera to the sim itself..

Also, I apologize about the potato quality of my camera - it's a very old phone.

If you have old, unused parts (that work) and would like to trade them for some personalized, one-of-a-kind artwork, please shoot me a PM! You're welcome to take a look at my portfolio here: www.davidloebman.com

But self-promotion aside, I would really appreciate any and all feedback that the community may have to offer - thank you for taking the time to read over this. I am very thankful for your collective expertise.

    My Motion Simulator:
    3DOF, DC motor, JRK
    A 2DOF is a simple starting place.

You can always retrospectively add heave or traction loss if you want to after gaining some experience with a 2DOF, and many members have, but I would suggest starting with the 2DOF first.

The original Playseat frame lends itself to either shoulder, knee or foot mount designs. Ignore the actuators in the shoulder mount example, as the JRKs and DC motors will be perfect, but here are existing member builds using each design type:

You could also make a tradition seat shaker design by separating the seat from the controls.

Thank you for the helpful links, noorbeast! From what I've read, shoulder mounts seem to be the most responsive, as the CoG is a lot closer to the chest of the driver. Though the knee mount design atop of a u-joint plate seems to have the largest degree of motion..

I've given thought to a motorized joyrider as it caters more towards flight, but I'm not really sold on the idea.
