Yes it might take some time though as I hope to have a normal driving sim built first and then integrate the bike into it. I'll be sharing everything I do and intend to keep going until it's finished.

Barry, what kind of "body" you will use? From arcade games, real motorcycle or you build something?

I'll try to get a real frame and fairings to start with if I can get them for free or really really cheap and if I can't get that I'll make a frame.

I do driving sims and flight sims, but I've never seriously contemplated a motorcycle sim because riding a motorcycle in reality is so completely different than any motorcycle sim I've seen. I have often wondered if a proper "cockpit" for a motorcycle was made, would it be possible to get a sim to feel anything close to the real thing. Or for that matter, do any motorcycle race sims even come close to the real thing regardless of the control method. I mean things like counter steering, and the whether that the sim-bike-pit would lean, but since there is no g-force leaning in the corners, it still won't be right.

Obviously, I'm not expecting such reality with a motorcycle simulator, and none of my comments are meant to poo-poo the idea of making a bike simulator. Exactly the opposite. I'm really interested in what you guys come up with. So, I'm curious just how real you guys are trying to make your sims. What is possible and not. An arcade like bike leaning back and forth like a full size human joystick, or a full on G-force through the center of gravity to the wheels, counter steering machine (meaning, instead of the bike frame leaning, you would try to simulate what a rider actually feels - g-force is always pushing you into the seat when leaned over). I have a few ideas on how that would be done, but it would probably be a very complex build. Then again, I've seen some pretty amazing stuff on this forum!

FYI, my perspective on this is I race locally (17 years club racing) and I'm a motorcycle track day instructor teaching both newbies and racers alike. Of course, the best thing is if a simulator could actually be used as a teaching tool, but I assume short of an amazing effort, such a simulator is not possible, and/or it might be cheaper or easier to just do the real thing. :)

    Regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike

I agree, G force is the main limiting factor here and I suppose with driving and flight sims they also suffer the same kinds of problems. Basically, G force is very difficult to recreate with any kind of reality. My idea is to build a very basic arcade style ride on simulator and if possible develop it further after I have the basic concept in place. Hopefully the ability to have a more versatile sim with a larger range of motion in the future will be possible and probably will incorporate a VR headset as well.

There was the head sim idea for G force simulation. Hard to image what it is really like though.

F...K that, I can see liability, injury, and goodness knows what else.
You are trying to do the opposite of what your head is doing. Your head is there to balance you in game with motion, not supposed to be pushed around like that.
I recall someone else commercial did a similar thing with cables, but again, it didnt go anywhere. Too much "headache".
