I consider at Christmas sale prices of around $349 the Rift is a better option. While some of the specs look OK on the MS HMDs they are not really optimised for gaming.

Of course you are free to spend your money as you want, but you did ask for opinions.

I consider Norm and Jeremy to have done the definitive pros and cons review and those guys really know VR:

The thing about stuff thrown in "free" with a PC is you are still paying for it and the way you do is by taking a hit on the PC specs/parts. They may offer a discount but with a new product, someone is making money.

I know some prefer pre-built PCs, but it has always been my experience that building your own gets you a system optimized for your needs and you don't get all the bloatware that PC companies include that robs cycles from your games/sims/etc.

The WMR headsets are slightly higher resolution but their tracking is sketchy and there is some lag. They aren't really good for gaming/simming with a motion rig. You would probably be happier buying an actual VR headset like the Rift or Vive but remember that for extreme motions like a 6 dof rig or those with significant heave or yaw/TL, the Rift doesn't allow for compensation but the Vive has a helper app that does. For slight motions, either seems to work acceptably without motion compensation.

You get what you pay for. Always important to keep in mind. Just about nobody gives anything away for free. They make their money somehow.
