    Hi @ferslash ,
I bought the magnets from supermagnete.de. About 25€ each plus shipment. The parts are custom made for about 75€. Enamelled copper wire is form Spiram for about 30€ per motor. Add bushings for less than 10€.

So the total cost for one custom made voice coil is about 140-150€.

Yes voice coils do not produce any sound, only the 10kHz PWM's whining can barely be heard at full load but using a subsonic PWM should solve this little issue.

I forgot to add that on the video, I use the standard PWM's frequency of the Arduino (about 490Hz...). It is a lot less noisy with the 10kHz PWM.

I will soon post a video to show you.

    Hello,

I'm interested in making a similar device for an AI project,
    does anyone know

    • where to find the aluminium (I guess) parts to which the wire and magnet will be attached as shown on the first picture (previous page)

    Thanks

    Hi Ponch'
I have found very cheap magnets, but can't find good magnetic steel and someone who accept to machine the actuator for a cheap cost. Machining the pieces shown in the pictures costs at least 500 euros in France.
Would you advice me how to do ?
    Thank you

This thread is a year and a half old and @Ponch has not been on the site since October 2015.

Yes, Ponch' is overwhelmed by his new job and is no longer active at the moment but he's still involved in simracing and he'll come back at the end of year :cheers

An exciting project but there have been no updates for a couple of years.
