Help with gears/ratio/reducer

    With a bigger pulley you need a longer belt to normaly, or shorten actuator stroke.
    With a shorter stroke he needs different gear math to.
    I adviced him a i=10 reduction to keep cost down and keep it simple

    I did the math with youre motor in it
    Youre 10 turn pot will make 500rpm @ topspeed
    And this is the pot max shaft speed to (see tech spec sheet)
    I hope it last long!

    This is made on rated speed.
    A belt needs tension, when this tension come on pot shaft its give a shorter lifetime.
    Try to take tension from potshaft with a second bearingblock upon pulley for example!

    I know you’re trying out the 10 turn halls @SilentChill but to answer this from your first post,
    , I wonder if you could modify this 200:1 plastic gearbox by removing the motor and make them work with yours and a 1 turn hall pot somehow? They're only $5.75 each too.

    Any pics on your final product @SilentChill . See you got them sorted a while ago. How often did you break your wire wound pots btw? Im commited to the pots i have for now as this build is already hemeraging cash as it is haha but if they start to break I'll be def keen on converting to hall sensors.

    an alternative is to drop the potentiometer and use a shaft encoder instead

    get the arduino to count the pulses and convert them to one rotation using some maths

    i suggest 360 pulse encoder - if it turns 10 times for one main rotation you have 3600 pulses per revolution


    are you using the smc3 code ?

    maybe someone have converted one to read pulses instead of pot voltage already
