    Hello everyone,

I have recently dived into the world of racing with a wheels and pedals. It did not take long for me to realize that mounting my system to my desk and sitting in an office chair was not going to be a long term solution, So i quickly jumped on Ebay to find that something worthwhile was not going to be as cheap as i thought and the quality of the item would not be great. so i have stumbled across the site here last weekend and browsed through what everyone else is up to and from a glance it seems as though i may be able to build something great for not much more than what i would have to spend on something that was prebuilt (and bad).

Now i have very little experience (none) with programming and setting up electrical motors, But i should have no issues in fabricating and wiring the project together. But before i go to deep into things i need to have a pretty good idea as to what this is going to cost. As i have all the tools to carry out the build it should only be the hardware that needs to be purchased. From what i Can see i will require

    Electrical:
    -2x 12v worm drove motors
-a power supply for the motors
    -an Arduino uno

    Physical:
    -Gimball( old drive shaft)
    -Seat
    -Frame steel
-4 x pivots and 2 lengths of all thread

I have had a look through the forums and i can see there are varying degrees of simulators that have varied in cost. as i am looking to build a 2DOF setup i would like the feedback and advise from people that have gone down a similar route that i am looking into.

    -2 Dof
-seat/pedals/wheel and shifter all to move as one platform
-Unit to be powered up from the wall (240v AC)

    Thanks in advance guys!

You have come to the right place, there are some pretty knowledgeable, talented and innovative members here who freely share their expertise.

There is also a lot to get your head around, so doing plenty of research before diving in too deep is a really good idea, as it costs nothing and there are lots of design, hardware and other choices to make.

You will find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs, in particular check out the SimTools, fundamentals of motion and the design sections: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

You can go through existing member projects for specific ideas or inspiration: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Or search for specific types of projects using the Google Custom Search function on the Recent page: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/find-new/posts?recent=1

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

There are some great tools available, SimCalc will help you figure out design Vs physic trade offs, and what motors are needed for a given design to operate at a desired performance spec: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...e-linear-speed-and-forces-of-your-design.270/

You can even simulate a simulator to have a play and get familiar with SimTools: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/simulate-a-simulator.350/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here, ask any questions you have there and detail your project progress: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/
