Hello all. My name is Nick, I am a mechanical engineer in the US. I am new to the sim racing scene (other than forza and GT) and would really like to get into build my own motion rig. My first real question is if you could just post some good threads to get started. I understand the basic working of the machines but would like to get in to the details. I think the other question is maybe a general list of parts needed to build a rig (motors, controllers, ect.) I have a very limited knowledge when it come to programming. It seems to me that the basic make up of the hardware is an arduino, motor controllers, power supply and of course a rig to attach them to?Should I be asking different questions? Is there any thing I am forgetting? I look forward to getting this project started, and any help will be appreciated.

Doing some research and planning is time well spent, and the community here can help you out as you formulate your ideas about what you want to build and even where you can source parts from.

Have a look at existing member builds, that may help you refine your own project ideas: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs, from design software, dimension of sims, to PSUs, pots, motors, JRKs, Arduinos and Motor Monsters and more: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

We have a glossary for all those acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

Once you have spent some time researching build threads and the FAQs then feel free to ask questions, the members here give freely of both their time and expertise.
