Hi, has anyone ever thought about a globe style simulator? Here's what I mean in terms of the basic mechanics:

It would allow motors to be directly mounted on the roll and pitch arms, while the whole unit sat on a turntable for yaw. Power could be routed through the system and between motors using a circumferential interface through the pitch, yaw and roll interfaces.

Does anyone think this would be possible? It's all a matter of how much torque each motor could exert. Here's a really horrible diagram:

The monitor, computer and input devices would be inside the sphere/geodome. You would only need to route AC power through the system for the hardware. Everything else would be self-contained.

Edit: Thanks for the link. The mechanics are exactly what I mean :)

Desdemona: the next generation in movement simulation

The multi-purpose Desdemona simulator recently installed at TNO will definitely push the limits of movement simulation. Desdemona is a movement simulator, disorientation trainer and advanced research lab, all in one. This simulator – unique to the world – can be used for both research and the simulation of complex situations that may occur during flight, driving or even sailing.here is the link and some photos
