Would I be right in saying that it is better to have the actuator closest to the pivot, this will elliminate the need for an actuator with a long travel distance and also weight lifting capabilities = Cheaper Actuator?

No, the closer you get to the pivot, the more thrust force you will need.

Think of it like bicycle gearing; the taller the gear, the faster the bike will go but the more force you will need to pedal.

It is a fine balance needed to optimize actuator choice and placement. I recommend testing this thoroughly to optimize your setup.

    Good luck!

I fully agree. Use the test plugin to optimize your actuator placement. You will find that have them on a steeper angle closer to the pivot will be less efficient in most cases.
