    Hi Sim folks :)

I have wanted to build a motion sim for racecar games for a long time, and been reading all of the good stuff you guys are posting :)
I want to have a long travel like the motion-sim.cz versions, so buying actuators is not an option, whey are psyco expensive :p
I have been thinking about designs for some time now, and i'm wondering, why anyone ain't using toothed racks for diy actuators? Is it a gearing problem? >Or what is the problem, if there is any?

    Regards
    Juel

Hi I use toothed racks but not like the actuators and only for horizontal movements. IMO using them for actuators you need a clean and clever design which I didn't get yet because of the parts we use for.

    there are some drawbacks:
    - backlash (opening a gate is not a problem, but moving back and forth frequently it is bad)
    - consequence: noisy
    - dangerous: need protective casing
    - as said by Pit, easy only when horizontal
