Hi, my name is Karolis. I've started building motion rig couple months ago. Everything is built from scratch. Firstly i built just a rig, then i found this forum and it inspired me to create something like Frankenstein:D. So at the moment i am at potentiometer mounting, attaching to motor's lever stage :D short about project: 2 ford smax wiper motors, arduino nano, couple ESC's(electronic speed controller) and 10+ meters (35x35mm) metals, 12v power supply. I will update with photos how project moving forward. P.s sorry for poor language, it is not my primary language.

Few more pictures of the rig. U joint used from bmw central drive shaft, 300N dampers from local furniture store (4€). Adjustable seat angle position, also adjusts pedals ant steering position. Only one bolt shift forward or backward and whole rig changes angles.

Ok, now i have got problems with simtools 2.6. 2dof wiper motors in back of rig. When testing with utilities program, separately motors working just fine, green folowing blue line nice and smooth.
    *Smc3.ino v1.0 i am using.
*Mode 2 for ibt-2 Chinese controllers.
Wiring diagram is not very clear about 3&4 (l_en & r_en) pins on ibt-2. Do i have to short them or they are going into separate pins on arduino? If yes, so where goes 1&2 pins (Rpwm & Lpwm)?
Motors behavior is erratic when everything starting to move from 0 in each side (ie roll if i go left both motors starting jumping up and down until i reach 40%+ on one or other side. After 40% one of motors starting to act smooth and other still being erratic.
Looks like idle position in code(i assume) is not right. Because when everything is set on zero(simtools) both levers sitting in upper position, if i move left or right just 2-5% levers jump into middle positions(90°).
Maybe somebody had this kind of problem with 12v wiper motors and ibt_2 controllers.
Btw on mode1 or 2 behavior is the same, so i assume code doesn't change either i change mode2 or not.

I triple check all connections, first i left only one driver and motor, in case of interference between pots, so i tested with sim tool only one motor, and in Roll settings it goes well in one side, but when i go through 0 in other side it starts jumping again. I assume something is not right with software. I will post after work whats is on settings.

Potentiometer is 10k cheap one, i tried using multi turn (10 turns) pot, but then lever spins to much to get wanted data...

I had a similar issue when my IBT2 went bad. At first it would move smooth in one direction but when asked to go the other way it would jump to my safe limit. Soon it would do it in both directions.

I hope that’s not the issue but I struggled too long with my potentiometers to not at least mention it here. Good luck.

I have four ibt-2s it's hard to believe that all are faulty. But not saying its not possible. Is there any way to check those ibt-2 units?

My fault was only one motor and swapped the controllers to finally find the problem. Sounds like it’s not your case. I hope you track down the issue.

One more thing i discovered, if i set roll in simtools 2.6 approx 40% and leave it, then others (sway & pitch) moves smooth in both sides without wobbling. It looks like in roll setting wobbly area is from -40% to 40%. Or in other words motor starts acting normally over half ways from zero. Can i change something in code(smc3.ino)?

you need to check your potentiometers.
Are your motors well insulated from ground?
Does the problem continue if you connect only one motor?

Hi, my pots are ok, motors are plain, i connected ibt2 straight to motor poles.

OMG PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! I was changing language, BUT in wrong place. Now my motor is playing nice and smooth, hard to believe that language can be so important. Thank you very much. I do not think this was the last problem i encountered, but at the moment i need to finish wiring, put cooling, add some thermal paste on IBT-2, paint my rig(very annoying because need to disassembly all :D). Once again, thank you it is the best gift for christmas :D

Awesome news! The language changes decimal points to comma so it can have a major effect with values and math.

EDIT: this may not be the case. I thought I read that somewhere previously but I just read another post referring to it as a programming bug. Either way glad the motion is working.

Well, the rig is little bumby, moving ruffly, but it is alive!!! F1 22 is something... First try, but i am quite happy. All rig cost for me approx 250-300€. Wiper motors i bought second hand 5€ each :D it was really nice project.
Some problems had: pc language!!! Kp setting was too high and was killing my psu. Btw psu is 500W from server. Arduino wires are very fragile, keep in mind. Well basically i was following others projects, have not invented nothing new :) maybe potentiometers attaching. I drilled hole in over side of lever, rip off all electronics from wiper motor, left only plain motor. I used pot's plastic knob(handle) as a coupler. Btw very nice, i have got free license (diy) the same day i applied. So if not decided yet, just start your own project ;)
