DCS devs have pinned down a terrain engine issue that will result in a 50% increase in VR performance in a pending update: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?s=3c4f7af1298d805ff4f9cf14f9ce7ed9&p=3869786&postcount=2333

DCS has the worst fps performance ─ at least in VR, I only know that ─ of any flightsim I play. I just slammed my head when I read Wag's announcement. Got any news on that? Any map that is healed from the miscoding? Though, to me, 50% improvement is far away of what I hope for in darest dreams...

Im trying to get into DCS because people seem to love it, but man the graphics and framerates are just horrible in VR. Im running this with amd 3700x and RTX3070. I haven't tried tweaking anything yet and I dont know If I will or not. I might just focus on flight simulator 2020 for now lol

It's a pity, no, a tragedy, DCS can't be played properly in VR. There have been so many announcements for performance improvements in the past years. It just never happened. Maybe I am wrong, but my impression is that most of DCS hardcore base is playing a) jets and b) on monitors. As long as they can program their laser-guided bombs VR immersion is of absolutely no importance to them.
Vulcan and even more so DLSS could be a "coup" to finally make DCS VR accessable, but they both require adjustments by the devs, so better don't dream of it.
However, in VR dedicated DCS forum threads you may find tips how to improve your performance and make DCS, to some extent, VR playable.

Most simulation games are not really optimised for VR, with both DCS and flight simulator 2020 requiring a lot of graphics tweaks and compromises.

There may be some "arcade style" flightsims that work well in VR (especially Gaijin's Dagor engine delivers excellent VR framerates; @Keith: with your equipment you should easily maintain a steady 90fps in WT), but among the sims we discuss here Aerofly's FS2 is probably the only one that is optimised for VR (at least they claim it). However, if you turn all of DCS' options down to AFS' level (no grass, no water, no reflections etc.), you'd probably achieve some competitive fps in DCS, too.
It's just I am more on eye-candy and immersion than on the technical side, so it breaks my heart to turn down the marvellous whitecaps and the blueish heatblur at the Merlin's exhausts. Thus in DCS I restrict myself to a low profile casual strolling along the white cliffs and avoid enemy contact...

The free 3Dmigoto VR enhancer and VR friendly prop definitely helped me a bit. Still waiting for a real improvement with either DX12 or Vulcan or DLSS...

DCS in VR is awesome. The 2.8 update was a slight performance hit but I am able to play it 90 FPS with my Quest 2 on the VR preset. I'm running a 5800X3D, 3080, 64GB.

Yes, definitely. Just yesterday I gave it a try and I had a solid stable 45fps, with 90fps on open sea (Aero, 4090, 13900K with mostly high settings). However, the OXRToolkit does not seem to work with the current DCS version (and Aero?). Still, this was the best DCS VR experience I ever had.
But my return to DCS is not scheduled before the Marianas WW2 release. MSFS meanwhile has such a bunch of really nice warbirds with which you can do carrier ops on the Lexington...
