    this may come late...but...

for everyone that wants to use heatsink without problems ...i sugest placing thermal pads between the chips and the heatsink.
    simple..safe...and costs less than 10 eur/usd.

edit:i dont think thought that in your case the burnout had to do with the heatsink.

I just order two more JRKs I will be very carefull with the USB cable and make sure they do not twist and bend, no heat sink this time only a fan, I am now very scare of adding a heat sink and scare about bending the USB cable.

    Thank you all...

Don't be afraid of adding heatsinks, as they are really necessary in how hard we drive JRKs. Just get some that are the correct size for the main chip and attach with thermal tape.

DONT run the JRK's without heatsinks. Yes they have a thermal shut down protection, But i can guarantee you'll hit that in the first 5-10 min, maybe even sooner if your running the rig as we/you normally would. Pololu made a legit BAD call on suggesting that failure had anything to do with the heatsink and to NOT run one in the future. That's HORRIBLE advice for your situation.

Milton, WE/community are the guys who make these pololu boards work for our rigs, The Pololu guys have ZERO experience with Motion rigs and stressing the jrk's to the breaking point. So i would honestly take what they say with a grain of salt.

I need help on deciding on witch power supply I should buy, I found two types that may work:

    A) Universal 12V 30A 360w Switching Power Supply, price US $32.86
    B) Universal 12V 40A 500w Switching Power Supply, price US $56.23

would the 40Amp burn the JRKs?

Here is the link of the power supplies:

No worries go for the 40 amp you might find you need the extra. I've been running similar 40a LED PSU's on my JRK's for several years, no problem. Order them and go go go. Have fun.

Search for used server power suplies on the net.
    50+ amps @12volt for 10-30usd or so.

Search inside the forum. You will find lots of info.

Tested by many of us and working very reliably.

I have two types of potentiometers one is 5k Ohms 3/4 turn and i also have 5k Ohms 10 turn.

Question: can i used any of those pots? Or do i need other types of pots?

    In advance thanks!

Generally speaking 10K pots are traditionally used. However, see @Alexey's comments here re 5K pots and other views in the same thread: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/potentiometers.7372/#post-87390

Personally I prefer Hall Sensors, even though they are a little more expensive you can't break them if you have a motor run wild, you don't need to gear them, they provide excellent fidelity and have a really long life span: http://www.newark.com/bi-technologi...egoryIdBox=&selectedCategoryId=&categoryName=

Thank you ! I am now very interested on the Hall Sensors can they be wired just like a POT? And is there any special setting on the JRK?
