You are doing wrong assumption! The ads are not covering costs for server hosting and administration of this site.

    Wrong again!

@bsft You can do with your coins what you want, so feel free to give them all away to new forum visitor but keep in mind when running expenses for xsimulator.net are not covered any longer its possible that there is no continuotion of any website maintanance which equals to a complete shut down of xsimulator.

If you have an idea how to make xsimulator.net running without any costs and work, feel free to tell me your ideas. I am all ears and if you have a solution we can get rid of the coin system.

People can easily earn coins for the download area with only little efforts and with no real money and the few percent who are purchasing a download package
are helping to keep this website alive. Period!

I've noticed that I no longer get a coin each time I view an updated thread. Did something change?

I appreciate your generosity, but I wasn't looking for more coins! I've got plenty for multiple download packages, or to donate to a worthy cause.

I was just curious if that was an intentional change, or if something had gone wrong somewhere. It doesn't matter to me, but it could make a difference to a newbie trying to get enough coins to download plugins. On one hand reading posts doesn't contribute to the community like actually posting does (unless it boosts advertising revenue), but it is nice for a newbie to have a way to earn points if they aren't ready to start posting their own projects, questions, or comments.

    Hi Guys,
I just want to say that there are no problems behind the scenes here at xsimulator.net.
Originally when the coin system was setup, René was nice enough to split the earnings with me.
And we even sent out a few thank you's to people from time to time.

But in the end, the earnings were really not that much, and sending money all over the world has allot of fee's. lol
And then there is taxes to consider, so paper work...
And well, It just made more sense to put the money toward the website.
So that's what WE decided to do.

Without this site, there may have never been a SimTools.
None of us have done any of this to get rich lol

And everything is really free here for the true DIY sim builder.
    like @RaceRay said:
And even SimTools 2.0 will still be free to the true DIY Sim builder.
It's all about pushing our hobby as far as we can, everything else is just stepping stones to get there.

    Dustin - aka yobuddy

@yobuddy thanks for stating this publicly.

@Pit, @cgodwin About the no-coins for reading issue:

When we found out that there are some user profiles who own thousands of coins with only a handful of written posts we had known that there was something entirely running wrong with the coin system as it was before.
Coins were ever intended to be given for activity like writing useful posts not for passive things like reading a post.

Coins also reflect the reputation of a user implicitly due to the assumption that someone who has a lot of coins is active in the community at an equal ratio.
Having some members with 10k of coins and only 8 written posts lead to the wrong assumption that these members supported the community same or less than the guys with 500 posts and "only" 5000 coins.

So this was an intentional change and no more coins are given for reading a thread.
For you guys, this is not a big deal you will still earn more than enough coins for your activity and reputation:)

    Thanks for the clarification @RaceRay.
You have a point on your post.

I sure hope this change doesn't fill the threads with the classic group of:
    "nice build",
    "interesting rig",
    "thank you"
    "welcome"
    etc useless posts.

A point well made @pipis2015 if the site can be selectively & easily modified as described above, how about modifying it so that anyone spamming (say writes to 3 existing threads in 5 mins, loses coins)

It is easier than that Rastus; we give a warning and then ban them if it continues.

So, if new users gain coins just by writing new posts, and not by reading threads, they're never gonna get 250 coins for the first download. It would have taken me a year, not spamming, to gain those money.
And if after a week you bought your package a plugin is updated?

When you're new here you don't have much to write, just ask a few suggestions, you surely can't help someone else in your first steps (when is you who need help).

Maybe I'm wrong, time will tell

Posting a thread about your own build or plans to build will get you coins pretty fast. And of course keeping your thread updated.

So many people just want the software and the plugins and never post. Buying a package is a way for those who do not want to participate to get downloads and help the website.

Even if you do not want to help others here just posting your build, issues that you ran into, or ideas that you came up with to overcome those issues greatly helps other members as they can learn from your experiences.
