Hi everyone I'm a newbie on here but iv been into my simulation since i was kid, i have built a high end PC and have triple screens plus VR and static driving rig with direct drive steering wheel V3fanatec pedals fanatec 1.5 SQ gearbox, and button boxs still need to sort out proper handbrake tho:think but i want to build my own motion and want to know if I build the actuator myself will I need to code them myself as I don't really have the experience with coding :sos or will they just run off simtools? I do want to take on the challenge I've already built new platform for motion :grin but was toying with the idea of saving and buying some actuator or taking on the challenge and building my own at least that way you can have any spec you want. Any help would be appreciated thanks.:thumbs

There are some variations by members but if you build actuators like these then you can use Arduinos and exiting code or Thanos board and they will work with SimTools: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/diy-linear-actuators.248/

Spend some time researching for you project, by reviewing others that have built a rig similar to what you intend.

Take it one step at a time.

What is it you actually want to build?

You don't have to build or buy actuators if your goal is to add motion to your existing rig, as DC motors with wormdrive gearboxes could easily power it. Of course you could build actuators if you want to, I am just saying there is simpler options.

well I do prefer the idea of actuator :) don't no why to be honest, I just want to make sure I'm on the right path with it plus the rig iv make was more or less made round where the actuators will go but if I really needed to I guess I could change it to be fair, tho iv spent a lot of time on here leaning and just checking other projects and getting lots of ideas :!

Well actuators are a bit more mechanically efficient, but they are also a good deal noisier that DC motors, so there are pros and cons other than the additional complexity of building the actuators, but being your project it is up to you to determine the relative priorities as in the end both options would likely work well.
