    First off, thanks to @noorbeast for a general guide on cable gauge which set me off on my little AWGhunt...

    I then went hunting around the Uberweb because we sim builders don't use nominal runs of cable, and the distances are quite short. Shorter cable - bigger burst.

    Using this calculator, you enter your Peak AMPS you expect a motor to draw, and enter the length of cable between Motor and JRK / MM etc.

    For example, to push 12V/40A over a cable that is only 20cm (0.2M) in length, you can get away with 17 AWG size.
