Hi guys, my name is Tony and after reading some of the posts I realise I'm well out of my depth. I've always loved racing sims and started looking at the possibility of building my own motion sim, but like I say, it seems that I would be wasting everyone's time as I have very little if no knowledge of electronics which seems to be a very large part of a DIY sim.
So if there's someone out there that thinks they could help me along I would very much appreciate it, unless of course I am right and would be wasting your time

    Welcome @tony francis.

You are not alone, many of us started with no idea. But the wealth of information and the supportive members here make it possible for anyone to build a motion simulator. You just need to be willing to read a bit in advance, plan your project, and get and follow community input to make it a reality.

As a start peruse existing member builds, that may help you refine your own project: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

The FAQ is also a great resource for building information: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

We have a glossary to help new members understand the acronyms we often use: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here:http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Along the way feel free to ask questions, the members here give freely of both their time and expertise.

    Good luck with your project.

It is a very supportive community here, just take your time, read a lot to get your head around the basics then start your own build thread and fire away with the questions.

Hi there, I've been reading on the forum for some now. You guys have turned my head, I have always been a hobbyist and have built hot cars, hot boats, enduro motorcycles and now I'm into bicycles. Bicycles are just the most fun. I ride a lot, 1 or 2 times a week for several hours each ride. Took me about 5 years to unlearn most of these moto bad habits. Then about 5 years to learn how to pedal. I'm ok riding now a days, I've been at it for 30 plus years.
I'm going to build a 2dof seat/cockpit shaker with traction loss. I have power supplies, pots and flex couplings, motors (pgsaw worm drive), ard+mm for control. I have a chop saw, grinder, and a mig welder and I'm ready to build. I need a seat. I've looked on ebay and cl for hours, NO JOY! I've even strayed over to looking at sim cockpits. Sim cockpits look good but I hate throwing away various pieces as I mod it. So my question for the forum is what seat do I buy? Search function tried; fail. James

Hi i´m pari from frankfurt in germany. I've been trying for years building a motion seat. Google has helped me and I found xsimulator. now the unanswered questions are far away. Meanwhile, new questions added :)
I'm an electrical engineer, working as it engineer. I have all of tools available to the project. weld, solder, wiring, No Problem!!! programming the arduino Not so good!
I have the project started 2 weeks ago. read many posts and seen alot of videos. I want to build a 2dof motion seat at first. I already have many parts... seat, aluminium profiles, the center universal joint, 2 rods, 3 monster shield.
I still need to buy... the arduino, 2 truck wiper, the 2 poti resistors. biggest problem is which one of truck wipers and where can i get the motors in germany.
The first thing i'm going to do is assembling the frame for the seat and the stand.
I hope that i get no major problems!
This is a very interesting forum. thanks to all contributors!!!

Welcome @Pari ! If you don't feel comfortable working with an Arduino, consider using a Pololu JRK. They are fairly expensive, but much easier to use than using an Arduino with an H bridge. But being an electrical engineer, I'm sure you would have no problem learning the Arduino very quickly.
The JRK is here: https://www.pololu.com/product/1393 You can also find a ton of info on the forums here.

Best to start your own build thread here, so all relevant information is in one place: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

A seat depends somewhat on your personal preferences and budget, new or old, but there are options like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3A-RACING-SEATS-/141822281447?hash=item21054446e7:g:6ncAAOSwT5tWPjXy&vxp=mtr
