    Hi

My name is Jan, and i am from Norway, im 31 years old, married and have 3 kids.
Im intrested in building stuff, i just finished a arduino plater that light my chilli plants and water them when needed. also just buld a small arcade style box that runs SNES for my kids. my last resently project is a smal CNC machine for wood, work area aprox 40x40cm.

Im looking for a new project and thats how i ended here.
i want too build a racing simulator. 2 Dof with wiper motors, but first i guess i want too build some kind of instrument panel from a arduino.

well as mention im brand new here, so instead of typing more about myself i will read all the things you amazing people have planed, worked on or put together.

    wish you the best

    Welcome @LtdParkinson.

You have come to the right place for all things related to DIY motion simulators and peripherals and it sounds like you know what it takes to complete cool projects.

If you want to build an instrument panel then start here for some ideas: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/gamedash-settings-tips-and-tricks.21/category

Also have a look at existing member builds for 2DOF ideas and inspiration: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

You will find the FAQ section covers many detailed topics: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

We have a glossary for all those pesky acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

If using wiper motors be aware that most need to be ground isolated: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/wiper-motor-mandatory-ground-isolation.25/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Yes i´m afraid i just realised this... :(

Too bad... i then found X-Sim (very similar name, aint it?) and they have support for transducers, but its a PITA to get it correctly set-up with all the nice effects like suspension and road bumps.... i only got RPM engine vibrations running, and cant seem to find the right variables for suspension or roadbumps.... i think i will just forget about it and buy SimVibe, cause i spent now nearly 6 hours to get my transducer working with no luck.... :/

But hey, thanks to all of you nice people out there, i will come back for sure, when i start building my first own motion-simulator :)

    Cheers!!!

    Hi all,

I'm a cheap bastard, so, G27 is too expensive for me. Will I be able to make something equivalent under 100 €?
I doubt it, but at least I want to learn how everything works and, if everything goes as expected, fail to keep the set budget ;)

Thanks ahead for all the forum posts

    100$ is kinda pushing it, Maybe a 1dof ? still need 2 motor's but only 1 controller/PSU

    H Nick,

thanks for the reply, at this moment I'm just gonna try to build the wheel and pedals, do you think I can build a set (wheel + pedals) for less than 100€? Or I can just forget it? At this time I just want to have a good time playing Asseto Corsa

Love the Ikea setup, very clean and simple, yours is completely off limits :)

You could use a cheap peripheral like a USB controller or even a mouse for basic axis and buttons, then dress it up a bit and map the output: http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Homemade-Steering-Wheel-USB-PC-with-Viberation/?ALLSTEPS

    Hi Norbet,

when I was about 16 (I'm now 38), I build a wheel and pedals set from scratch connecting the electronics to a game port of my SB AWE32 (sound card for young guys in this fourm).

The pedals were two metal pieces united by a steel rod and with a sprint from a old bicycle brakes.

The electric part was a set of 3 potentiometers (of 100k if remember correctly) , 2 for the pedals (horizontal potentiometer) and 1 for the wheel (circular potentiometer).

In those days there were no such thing as force feedback.

I would like to make a wheel and pedals and get force feedback to the wheel.

I would love to build a full set like you experts have, but I'm a cheap bastard (with two kids) so I would like to make something simple, that worked with force feedback, I know that with 100€ I will not get me far, but will I be able to build something?

    Thanks for your reply Norbet

Your budget is really limiting given the type of hardware involved, the principle is the same but DIY wheels tend to be aimed at the high end experience: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/steering-wheels.65/

Honestly with your budget I think you would be better off looking at buying a second hand FFB wheel and mod it with buttons, quick release and other similar options.

I Agree with Noorbeast, You should be looking for a Used or in good condition DFGT wheel. Saves you the hassle of having to build and you'll get a decent experience out of it. If the budget were higher and you had some more background in this kind of stuff, a DIY might be a solution. but best stick with the DFGT.

@Luis Pinho , look for DFGT second hand, apart from pedals being average, they are a very good FFB wheel. Just adjust your own leg pressure form braking in game. Or use a piece of faom under the brake pedal, youtube for options for making brake pedals stiffer.
your budget of $100 is , sorry, ridiculous.

    Understood,

and sorry to be a pain.
could you point me to an article were this is explain?
How does the force feedback works?
List of things to buy to build a wheel and pedals?
What is expensive in this art.

The first thing I want to do, is to learn how things work together, I'm a DIY guy, always been, I build quads, airplanes, even small RC cars, all from scratch (except for the motors).

I never worked with force feedback or anything similar. I'm a software engineer with some experience in electronics... but I would love to learn how to build one of these things (even if I don't built it afterwards).

    Thanks for all the replies

EDIT: noorbeast, your first link already has what I was requesting, thanks

@Luis Pinho , may I suggest you start a new thread here http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-building-q-a-faq.31/ with your outline list of questions and we can answer it there, that and all the information is in your own thread and not clogging up here.
    Cheers, Dave.

    Welcome @Vboull.

Please start a new thread here and tell us a little more about your simulator: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

If you feel the need to you can post in French but please do also include an English translation via Google Translate. It saves other members time trying to work out who may need help and who is just posting a comment.

We have bi-lingual speakers from many different language group so if Google Translate really messes it up they can help clarify what was intended.
