This showed up on my Youtube picks- It's amazing how mainstream engineering has no idea of what is currently available for simulation.

The project was from a couple of years ago and it does indeed seem incredulous that there did not seem to be even a perfunctory review of the DIY motion simulation scene.

Well, it seems that they at least delivered their kickstarter rewards (see their last update post here):
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1072290093/virtual-reality-motion-platform/updates

About the rewards: Most of them are 3D printing models of some parts, offered for download.

The strangest reward seems to be reward number 7: It includes all rewards 1 to 6 plus an Arduino board "needed to create a small scale(!) platform".
Now look at the price: The rewards 1-6 cost $ 500 all together, and reward number 7 costs $ 750.
That means, the Arduino board alone costs $ 750-500 = $ 250.. Or am I misinterpreting something?

I also don't know if they ever succeeded with their platform. But it seems that it was a university project without commercial background. As they say in their video, they wanted to make their achievements open source, but I guess they did not have the target to sell their rig at the end.

Unlikely - nothing against Mechanical engineers - but the main part of their project was to deliver complex bespoke software and they are training to be mechanical engineers not software o_O.. Anyway not the first simulator related kickstarted to deliver basically zero to the public backers in relation to simulation.
